IIRC, S550 launched roughly Feb06....some 2yrs ago...

Drove a new S550 at launch for mth or so....and traded-in for 100% of MSRP....

High-end economy is slowing, esp in past 3mos....so would guess new S550s are available at ?93% MSRP...and one can $0-down lease at decent terms...doubt it's financially efficient for most to buy any car....

No surprise used '07 values are so low...most used/aspirational buyers are more affected by economy and expect a substantial disct vs cost of a new copy....and no one "needs" an S-Class anyway, so many clever buyers will simply opt to $0-down lease a deep-discounted new copy...

07 S550, Passat 2000
Most of them have around 20k miles; cars with less than 10k miles are still above or around $80k.

This is good news for me since I am still searching for my dream car "S550"!!!

My dealer is telling me the exact opposite thing.
They said they were very busy selling cars the past month..

Im looking at a demo with MSRP of 95k asking 79,747$ with 6xxx miles.
They wouldn't go lower than 78500$ .....they haven't called back in 2 weeks...

My guess would be that lower fed interest rate = lower cost of borrowing=lower payments, so people would go ahead and buy more?
But the reason why the fed rate is lower is coz economy is in a bad state which would lead to people spending less..

I dont get it ..

Well I can get 10k off one new all day long here in LA..so I guess it makes sense that the used ones are taking a decent hit.

Try CalStar Mercedes-Benz. If you are serious let me know. I communicated with a guy there who was VERY willing to beat just about ANY quote! I think he would even do 9-11k off

I didn't end up buying the car through him bec. I got a good deal here in Austin + I was not comfortable transporting the car 1100 miles and assuming responsibility for that.

Your dealer is a liar, as should be clear from MBUSA's sales numbers for Jan, and imho what we'll see for Feb.

I agree, they are not being truthful. Sales are down nationwide, my dealer sold 10 cars for february verses 60-120 monthly average.

Yea, I know and I called their bluff...Herb Chambers has bought enough dealerships around our area that as consumers, we are starting to feel a local monopoly. There used to be 4 mercedes dealer around Boston, and they acquired 2 of them..leaving only 1 left to compete. They now offer what they call "smart pricing" which is their policy not to negotiate on used cars (thats what they told me)...yet they lower the prices on their cars every 3 weeks if they dont sell...doesnt make sense to me at all..

absolutely true. Herb in the Boston area is pretty much taking up everything. It's pretty bad. There's only Westwood Mercedes left right now, I also hear Viti in Rhode Island is also good. Derrick, I would check down there if you haven't done so already.

Wow, hopefully a decline that huge isn't going to be representative of the entire economy!

I'm in the business down in Atlanta. We finished 2007 34% better that 2006. MBUSA was up also, finishing their best year ever. I think there is too much gloom and doom in the media, resulting in a sort of "self fulfilling prophecy" syndrome. Or maybe the folks who buy new M-B's are immune to the "recession". Whatever the reason, I'm glad that our business is thriving.

I usually take the crap I read in the auto magazines, divide it by 10 then take the square root of that and that is about all their nonsense comments is worth!! The media is 100% of the problem with everything. I rarely watch the news to keep from being in depression.
It's good to hear your business is doing great in Atlanta. Which dealership are you associated with in Atlanta?

Any one have updates on what the latest discounts and pricing are? I'm hearing 10-11k off MSRP. Is that what people are seeing?

Firstly, please try to buy the car on phone and avoid going to the dealership.
Secondly, please work off a percentage. You can get 15% off the MSRP if you REALLY buy the car on the spot.

^^^i find that statement to be very hard to believe...maybe it has to do with the location you are in, but i am not finding any dealers around me willing to go anywhere near that price...im really surprised people are getting 10,000 off msrp...where are these dealers and what exactly is the catch...are these demo models, older models, cars that have been sitting on the lot for months???...

Please tell me this is not true (so I don't feel so stupid and inadequate)

Uuuummmm, on second thoughts, please tell me that it is true (so that I can go back to the dealer and hammer them some more when I take delivery of my car)

The reason I like this board is because most people here seem to be honest and serious MB fanatics who like to share their experiences and at the same time help others.

$15k off MSRP is phenomenal.

I hope you are not yanking our chains and are being truthful. If you're not, then there's no harm in coming back and letting us know otherwise.
