One of the sponsor on this forum, DCTMOTORSPORTS, is willing to make a carbon fiber grill for our cars (03-05 which has the 4 slats silver grill). The price will be $400 if we have 10 people ordering. I'm still deciding either to keep the distronic star or have it starless like the Brabus one. Let me know what you guys think or if you're interested.

I don't like the Star-less look ... but I do like the 3 slat instead of the 4...

Here's how they look without the star for W211. link. Seems like good quality and the price ends up ~$250 since so many people ordered them. The 3 slats one with the distronic star will look exactly like the 06+ ones but fit 03-05 cars. The starless one will be like the Brabus K8 in the picture I attach. Both versions will be in carbon fiber. Maybe we can start a list of people who want the star one and people who want the starless one.

What is distronic star? the grill should have a cutout for the factory star to go onto correct? I don't have the distronic option in my car, I just have the regular/standard star on the front grille. I'd like to stay with that instead of the distronic version (convex star decal with sensor behind it) of the star which was not on my car to begin with...

I like the Mesh non mirror distronic look, which came on my car originally...I don't have the distronic option so was hoping I could transfer my existing star over to this new grille? Is this possible...

otherwise maybe I'd consider the distronic grill, would have to see the final product on a car to decide though...still don't know if I like the mirror picture distronic Star.

I don't think the star is interchangible between distronic and non-distronic but I will ask the sponsor to see if that'd be an option, too.

there are many more cars with non distronic Stars that this should be standard - distronic was an option on these cars, not many cars had that option...

I know what you mean, but you don't have to have distronic to have the star like that. Anyone could put a distronic star on their car without the option and a lot of people just like the look of it, too.

Here's a little update for the grill:

1. 06 cars don't have the updated grill either so this group buy is for all 03-06 R230.
2. The vendor prefers to have only one kind of grill right now so it'd be 3 slats CF with distronic star since it's the most interested.

As long as the slat doesn't cover up the sensor you'd be fine. However, I'd worry about the sensor getting hit by other things tho as it's exposed.

Lorinser has the starless grill on their SL Nardo and it fits our cars (03-06).

Just to clarify, if we can get 10 people in one option, it'd be $400 each. If you just want the one off option, it'd be $750 since it'll be hand made.
