Hi - i just bought a w209 CLK which has COMMAND and BOSE. As the car came with option 273 (phone pre-wiring), I booked it in to a Mercedes specialist to fit the 6310i cradle. BUT they couldn't find the wiring under the arm rest, or the junction box in the trunk.
Mercedes UK confirmed to me that the car has option 273, but can't help me any further. (the car also has the external antenna - option 354).
Any thoughts ? I'm beginning to think that the factory forgot to install the wiring, but that sounds very strange ?

Any help/info much much appreciated!

The PSE is the box that contains the electronics that make the interface to the head unit (radio or Comand) and the steering wheel controls. The phone -- Mercedes Motorola (USA) or Nokia (Europe) -- contains the software that interfaces the phone to the PSE and all.
The UHE (sic) (UHI actually) is the Universal Handi (sp?) Interface that Mercedes is presently installing in certain models in Europe. With the UHI PSE, one can use a number of GSM phones (Siemens, Nokia, etc.) by simply adding a clip to plug the specific phone into.
What else would you like to know? I'll be happy to do what I can to help. Steve's the expert at these things, but I'm relatively savy.

Installing the cradle alone is not enough. You also need to install the Phone Support Electronics (PSE). There really is no "junction box," but a 25-pin cable that plugs into the PSE, and a 4-pin (I think) power cable that controls the antenna switch (switches between Teleaid if you have it, and the phone)
Again, I don't know about MOST, but I'll assume that there should also be MOST wires that plug into the PSE.
So, in summary, if the wiring isn't in your car, you need to take it back to the dealer and get it installed. But if it is in you car, your Mercedes specialist needs to do the following:
Take the false bottom out of the armrest and hook-up the antenna wire. Plug the 14-pin phone cable in at the front of the armrest, probably under the Teleaid buttons. Remove the paneling in the trunk (probably right paneling is you have a US car, and I'm not sure what paneling you should remove if your car is European). In my car, the 25 pin cable, antenna switch wire, and fiber optic wires were all behind the right rear wheel well.
You need to add the PSE, the antenna switch, and a linear compensator, if you use one, to a bracket and screw it into the trunk. I am assuming you'll also have to have the Mercedes specialist plug in the MOST wires to the PSE, connect the phone MOST wires behind the radio or Comand to the MOST network, and then connect the MOST wires in the trunk into the loop (Hey MOST experts, is MOST a loop?).
I hope this helps.

That's all I know. What I need to know is do I need to get both the PSE and the UHI, or one or the other? Do I need to access the back of the radio, and how? And finally, does a wire need to be run from the center armrest to the back right of the trunk (where the rest of the interface is), or is all the cabling for that in place, and I will just need to make connections at the center armrest and the rear.
I'm even willing to have someone do the install for me, but I don't know where to seek out help, and I don't want to go to Mercedes and get charged an arm and a leg.
Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to provide.

You should see the antenna connector that you screw onto the wire on the phone cradle and you'll see the 14-pin connector that the phone cable plugs into.

Thanks! Only problem is that I'm not sure if the CLK has MOST or D2B... any idea how I can find out ? Also, is there an easy way to figure out if the car already has the right wiring loom (i.e. if option 273 has been fitted) ?
(I still find it amazing that Mercedes dealers themselves don't know!)
By the way, the car is European, so I guess that means it doesn't have TeleAid?
Thanks again!

Also, assuming that the wiring is there, what do i need in order to add the UHI (universal handi interface) ? Or do you know where I can find out? Spoke to my local Mercedes dealer again this morning and they still aren't sure.

It is very difficult to understand why the Mercedes people wouldn't be able to advise you on this.

missing replies...
looks like some of my recent replies have gone missing... anyway, for anyone else who is looking to install a phone into the w209 CLK, i learnt a few things recently (finally managed to speak to a senior technician at MB in germany!):
a) phone pre-wiring for the CLK (option 273) is NOT in the armrest. The cable is behind the dash-board, and apparently quite tricky to find.
b) Even if the car is pre-wired, you still need:
- PSE [Phone Support Electronics] unit (about £200 from a UK dealer)
- Cradle (about £85 from a UK dealer)
- Labor cost! (stil waiting for firm quote!)
Hope that helps!

How do I get the original MB phone craddle out of the armrest? I unscrewed the nut, well, that's the only nut I could see and pulled out all the little rubber things that held the black cover where the craddle's resting on. Any help would appreciate and hopefully I wouldn't break anything that's useful.

bluetooth setup
i went to eurocarphone.com and got the argos bluetooth kit it works with just about any BT cellphone. its pricey but its very very easy to install and works with intergrated celphone systems and non intergrated system and u can use the same system that the mb intergrated ones use. its $799 for cars with intergrated celphones and $749 for those cars that don't. the reason to this the cars with intergrated systems already has a d2b cable so don't have to buy one. i paid $815 total and got it in a few days. all u have to do is pair the celphone with the argos bt kit. once done just leave the BT signal on ur cellphone on and it connects automatically. any info needed just go to the site.

Revisiting this Retrofit to enable ViseeO Bluetooth
I've recently discovered this thread as I'm contemplating retrofitting the Nokia 6310i kit to my W215, which has the old Motorola 2700 fixed phone. The reason is that the release of the ViseeO Bluetooth module makes this kit a tantalising prospect once again, cheaper by some £400 than upgrading to a UHI phone system and with what looks like pretty good Bluetooth functionality.
More information about the ViseeO here: http://www.soundlabsgroup.com.au/p/B...ooth+Interface
What I'm trying to work out is how much rewiring is needed. The Motorola fixed phone has a phone interface, which functions in the same way to the Nokia one, interfacing with the D2B system. It also has a transmitter/receiver, which is where the SIM card lives. On the Nokia system the phone is the transmitter receiver and so I imagine that I can remove the Motorola interface and Transmitter receiver from my car, replacing them with the Nokia unit.
A visual check shows a 25 pin connector and a D2B one going into the Motorola D2B interface and my question is, if I plug these into the Nokia interface and extend the RF cable, which currently goes into the Motorola transmitter/receiver, to the Nokia cradle, is that all that is required, or do I need to replace that whole section of the loom?

I had a quick look, seems like the D25 connector pins are the same on a portable and fixed phone setup (would double check this though if I started installing a new interface box). In the minimum you could reuse the 10 pin cable from the box to the cradle (with or without wire position changes).
Is your intention to use a handset too or just the ViseeO device? If you only intend to use the BT device, you would not need to worry about the antenna cable.
PS. I thought I saw a question about the cradle clip. I've used a 6310i successfully on a 6110 type of cradle where the phone is secured with a clip over the helix antenna of the phone. While 6210/6310 don't have the helix antenna, they would need a different part but I did not see the change necessary, the phone stayed well in the cradle without the clip. But I believe the clip was available as a spare part.

I have option 316, D-Net integrated telephone.
I like the option of using the 6310i or the ViseeO device. In any event I understand the ViseeO has a SIM chip holder in it and can be used as a phone, which would suggest it is an adapted 6310i or similar anyway.

The 316 phone still appears to use the same wires on the D25 connector.

Thanks Diesel. My mistake on the ViseeO being a phone. ![smash](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smashfreak.gif)
I would have to fit a D-Net compensator if I require 1800gsm but I don't, my contract is with 02 who are 900gsm and I find that works fine with the Motorola so don't forsee a problem.
Does anyone have the part number for the aerial connection?
