quesiton: i sanded down a bulb to get it to fit.. is that bad?

basically i bought a bulb from autolumination and it was too wide for the socket by about .5-1mm and i sanded it down to get it to fit, is this bad?the bulb type was a 194 type so basically a wedge style bulb

here's a pic, basically the part i circled i sanded down and reduced the width by about 1mm, it's just the glass holding/socket part of the bulb, i didn't actually touch the part where it lights up

Does the new bulb have the correct wattage spec? If yes, I don't see why you could not put it in.

it should, it actually is the bulb i need, but the manufacturer who produced it didn't seem to make a perfect shaped end i guess, but it is the correct bulb number

I'm really not familiar with these different bulb options, 1mm difference could have been intentional to protect against this bulb being used in the place of the smaller one. But if you say the numbers are right, looks like a not really well produced product.

i'd shave it down. those looks like 5 watt-ers and whether you use 5 or 6 watt
bulbs for that circuit (which is usually the variance) isn't going to kill any auto
circuits out there. in other words, this one is somewhat of a yawner. you may
want to look at the fitting to see if there is an obstruction in the socket.

heh heh....looks like you couldn't resist getting the stealth bulbs. must've
purchase new clear marker lens for your ride, eh? did you do better than
$3 each?

haha yeah i got these for my city lights, they were ruining my xenon look, but after i put them in they are dim as hell, and had this fitment issue i'm talking about in this thread, so even though i did get them for 1.49 each, i would not recommend getting them from the place i got it haha

hey, intriging idea..... do you have any pics with the stealth/ambers as city
lights? it shouldn't be that much dimmer. the US OEM bulbs are 6 watt and
the one you have should have been 5 watts. I think the Euro issue city lights
may also use the wedge instead of the bayo 6 watt-ers. btw, i am simply
using the Phillips Blue Vision for my city lights, which are 5 watt wedgers.
note that US uses bayonet bulb...but when i switched to Depo, the design
they used for city light was the wedge fitting.

You should get LED lights on your car. Forget those chrome painted bulbs they get extremely hot and can melt and discolor your plastic housings.
