1. HOW-TO GUIDE FOR CELL PHONE UPGRADES, PLUG-IN AND BLUETOOTH
Thanks for all the posts here that helped me formulate a plan and get this done for $675. Cheaper than any other options and I used all OEM parts.

I have owned several Lexus with Bluetooth and you get spoiled but I am very satisfied with this solution on my CLK.

Hello Skylaw,I am trying to get bluetooth function with my Motorola Droid in my 2007 S550 What is the best way to go, You mentioned something about a Parrot plugin will that work, or do I have to get the Bluetooth interface module from MB cataloge? Thank you.
1) I don't test or advise on specific phones. I discuss the few that I own, but that's it. You can search the forum for other members' experience with the Droid.
2) I don't write up or advise on 3rd party systems because I have no experience with them. I mention them as being available, but that's it. Once again, you can search for others' experience with the 3rd party systems, and you can research the manufacturers' sites for more information.
3) If your car has the basics of an MB phone system, you'll need a Bluetooth puck. The AWS site will tell you which puck; and they may have tested the Droid by now. Links to AWS are in the early writeups, including those dealing with the MHI system - which your car uses.

If you want music too - that's another story. You're looking at about $700 for a Dension Gateway 500 with its Bluetooth add-on, or about $1,000 for both music and Bluetooth, with combination units from iTronics or mObridge. However, you can remove those devices before you trade.
I just bought the iTronics BT with iPod for my 2006 ML350. After much work and back and forth to installer, it is finally working with my phone. However, it won't download my address book. ITronics tells me their system is the Parrot, although it does work with my Command system. They tell me there is no memory that stores the address book and that it's loaded each time I turn on the car. I have a Samsung Alias phone and they're saying that's the problem. Because I also have Verizon, they won't commit to telling me which phone will work with my system. Do you have any ideas, before I invest in a new phone? I've already spent a fortune to use my phone hands free and it's not meeting all my needs so far.
I had some trouble with my phone too, but fortunately it's a WM6 smartphone and I managed to get the contacts to transfer by installing a BT extender program. Before this though, I found that I could push contacts individually via bluetooth without the extender and they did stay in the memory of either the device or the head unit (audio 20 in my case). If you list an individual contact, see if there's an option to "beam" the contact or similar which may open up into an option to transfer a contact via BT. At least you could set up a few favorites this way.
Its worth trying to delete and sync your phone up a few times too, by the way as I found the sync to be pretty flaky with another phone I tried. It gave me different results each time.
Good luck!

Forgive me in advance if this has been covered...
I've got a bluetooth puck in my MY2005 MB SL and have it paired currently with a VZW 8330 (Curve1) and a Sprint Tour(1).
I'd like to get the new VZW 9650 (Bold2) to replace the VZW 8330 (Curve1).
Please advise whether or not the new VZW 9650 (Bold2) is compatible with the MB Bluetooth Puck B67875878. (I believe that's the correct model number for the puck, which is c. early 2006).
I could also get either a VZW Incredible or a Sprint EVO. Please advise regarding compatibility with either of those smartphones as well.
Thank you.
Dave

I just got a 2007 E Class that has a spot to put a Bluetooth puck, so I've ordered one, and I assume I'll be all set. My 2006 CLK however has no such "dock" in the console, so I want to confirm, what would I need to buy to make OEM Bluetooth work in that car? MHI controller for the trunk, the bracket to hold it, the dock that installs in the center console for the bluetooth puck, and the bluetooth puck? I see above that that's about $675, so I can ponder that. Is that correct?

The "kit" listed on eBay is missing the bracket and the fuses. If you can find a listing from cellguy85, then call him and he can probably put a kit together for your car. He can also answer questions you may have.

CONTACT PLATE CABLE A203-820-1311
UHI MB part number A219-820-2626
PAK PART # B6 787 5878
UHIPHONEKIT023.jpg?t=1269388769
The Star bulletin for CLK (2005) lists the major parts as:
Vehicle core installation kit: BQ 682 0906
CLK-Class coupe vehicle completer kit: BQ 682 0912
MBAgain is correct that the completer kit would have included fuses and the bracket. If you buy the components pictured, you may be able to find the bracket at a breaker yard such as Potomac German Auto (http://www.pgauto.com/).
However, he also gave you a good suggestion as to who to contact. Cellguy85 does deal with many individual components.

I do not do much hands on work on my car or anything else anymore but I took this on because all the prices I was getting were outrageous. It took me several hours but I got it done and it works great with my Storm 2. I have the 5878 puck by the way.

He says that CLK coupes can be tricky; how did yours go?
The biggest issues for me were all the connectors to both the fiber optics and the mic and the bracket install. It did all fit in the end and I think it would go much smoother a second time. If you do much work on your car then this probably will not be too tough for you.
Sorry for the hot weather. The good news is you have a few days. We have 4 more months here in houston
.Let me know if you run in to anything and I will try and offer what help I can. Good luck!

As I called cellguy85, I started to assume that these two symptoms might be unrelated and from two different causes. Mis-wiring for the sound issue, for example, and a fuse, perhaps, for the puck. cellguy85 said he thought he remembered some notes he'd made regarding CLK Coupes and, sure enough, the Star Bulletin has a misprint! Back in step D, Configuring the MOST Ring, it says (for my configuration: sound system, no satellite radio): "Remove the fiber labeled 'SOUND' from slot 2 (B, Figure 19) of the MOST connector and insert the fiber labeled 'SOUND 2' in its place", but cellguy85 has found that it's the one labeled "SOUND 1" that needs to be inserted in slot 2.

I was hopeful that that would fix my lack of audio, but I didn't think it'd have anything to do with power at the puck. cellguy85, though, said that an incomplete fiber loop could have that effect. Sure enough, that change fixed all. I then did the mic hookup and was all set.
There are a number of antenna connections that are not needed for using the Bluetooth puck, since Bluetooth doesn't use the vehicle antenna at all. Those connections, including all the FAKRA leads in the bulletin, are only important if you were installing a phone cradle instead of the puck. Still, I made the FAKRA connections to the linear compensator anyway (man, there's mot a millimeter of extra slack in those leads). I may discover that there's a phone cradle I'd use (doubtful, as a 2007-2008 cellphone is a lot "older" than a 2007-2008 Mercedes).
Thanks Skylaw and MBAgain for all the info and tips. And anyone considering this mod as a DIY, have no fear! I think MBAgain and I each came at this with minimal experience and we both pulled it off!

Great to hear! Cellguy85 helped me a few times on specific issues too. Did you have to do the reconfiguring inn the tunnel access?
Congratulations! Best thing is that we have a OEM solution that works well.
