Remote starter for Mercedes with Smartkey
Merry Christmas from Midcity Engineering...
We've been working on finally getting a remote starter system for all you MB owners out there who like me hate the cold and dont have heated parking. Well we have been diligently at work for the past few months and that work has paid off. Here is a little demo video:

If it wasn't midcity, I'd say don't buy it.
I assume rob does not want to tell too much about the technical approach, I'm sure there are others who would like to know how the drive authorisation is done (I don't need it as I have 228 but I sure would be interested knowing how this works if the key is not left in the car).

You're right I cant say too much about it right now but rest assured that DAS is left intact. We put together a new video which shows the various features and includes what happens when you try to take control with and without your key...

This looks really cool, but why do I get the feeling it only works with keyless go? Or atleast you lose certain features without keyless go? Can you get into compatibility yet as far as which vehicles this will work in? I'm VERY interested if this can be installed in an 05 W203. Thanks!

The factory remote is good for about 150 ft of range. If you want or need more range we are going to have an option to add an aftermarket 2-way remote that will also provide start confirmation.

We have been using an ML for the test bed so the first models to be available will be 2005-current ML/GL/R SUV's with keyless go...
Any estimated timeframe on 2008 SL550?
The initial release is going to be for keyless go vehicles only. Non-keyless go can be done but require an additional board that we are building right now. To add to the complexity, the way both keyless-go and non keyless-go vehicles igniton systems work varies from model to model so there will actually be a few versions of the hardware to cover all of the various models.

We are working on a dial in link right now. Basically you will be able to call the car from anywhere in the world and start it on demand.
I assume the Keyless Go will work as normal or are there any changes?
When will this be ready? Steve is heading my way in Feb, I'd like to get it so he can install it........if it does it (I dunno).
Is this plug and play.....no factory wires cut?
Anybody know if this would affect the warranty?

I'm definitely in for this with the dial-in feature. I have it on my Honda Pilot and would really love to have it on my GL since I have to park in a different structure -- that's Brooklyn for ya
