Iphone for 2001 E430
I have a 2001 E430 and would like to use my iphone to:
1. Play audio through the car's stereo
2. Talk on the phone hand's free (using the stereo speakers). Does this car have a microphone and will it work with the iphone's bluetooth?
Can anyone please tell me the options available for each activity above?
Thanks in advance!

There are long threads here about complex upgrades to your existing audio system to accomplish some of these goals. They seem expensive and kludgy (to use an IT word) to me.
By far the simplest thing to do is to update the Head Unit; look at Crutchfield (and talk to them) to find what you need. Pioneer makes a product people seem to like -- model number includes "310" in it.
By and large the objections to doing this come from 2 directions: it's not "echt mercedes" (matters to some people), and the HU displays are often ugly (very true!). To me, at least, the advantages outweigh these issues, and this is what I'm planning to do on my '99 4matic wagon.

If a non-integrated solution is ok, at least temporarily, you might buy a $50 Griffin adapter that sends music through an unoccupied FM frequency. I'm doing that until I have time to upgrade the HU, and it works well.
If you keep the iPhone powered, you might be able to put it on speaker phone and use its microphone. I think the caller's voice would come through the car speakers. This is pretty kludgy too!

Some of the earlier phone upgrade options in the "How-To Guide" may have been "kludgy" - but with MB now offering the Universal PSE and Cradle Eliminator Cable, it's now pretty straightforward to do the Bluetooth part; it can be done for as little as several hundred dollars, vice over a thousand; and it uses MB equipment that integrates just as MB intended it to.
And the Dension Gateway 500 will take care of the mp3 portion of the Iphone. See https://mbworld.org/forums/audio-ele...mentation.html (but be sure you read about D2B limitations; the writeup is mainly about MOST bus equipment. However, the D2B installation is FAR simpler than the MOST installation).
With those options you can keep the rest of your audio system, including the CD Changer, amp and speakers. With many of the other 3rd party options, you cannot, which adds an expense.
