old phone (Timeport!) question...
is there a way I can confirm that a Timeport I have is the MB version? I don't recall ever having a non-MB one, but this one doesn't have the MB logo on it. I vaguely recall using it in w202 long ago, but only for free calls (*611, *1, which used to be traffic, etc.), as I never activated it. That car's long gone, so I can't just plug it in and try it....

If you plug it into an MB having a TimePort cradle and TimePort or Autosense PSE, and it is NOT an MB-branded TimePort, the car will shut the phone off. That's all that will happen.
With a TimePort cradle, if it is an MB-branded TimePort, you will get some indication that it is trying to connect to your service provider; since you don't have a service provider, it won't connect.
Most U.S. service providers will not accept a TimePort on their system any more - although digital, it is not an E-911 capable phone, which most services now require.
The TimePort will not work in your CLK, which uses an MHI system (there are no TimePort cradles for MHI). It would work (if an MB-branded phone) in the C320 only if you have an Autosense (or TimePort, but an '03 would have had Autosense) PSE and a TimePort cradle. It is not a Bluetooth phone, so it won't work with any bluetooth setup. You must plug it in.

Thanks Skylaw; I don't have access to an old MB anymore. I know the phone can't be activated but thought it might be of interest to someone who owned the right car, as it can call 911 and 611 at least.

hey, I just powered it on (that it has any battery power is a surprise) and the power-up screen says "Mercedes Benz".....I guess that tells me something!

you could readily flash even a regular timeport to mercedes benz firmware with PST ( the motorola service software) so the timeports were never in really big demand compared to some of the other MB branded phones... It eventually got to the point where you could flash all the motorola phones to be MB phones (v600, V60, vadar, etc.)
as skylaw pointed out they really arent worth anything anymore here... your best bet is trying to sell on ebay to someone in south america where they can still activate those phones.. maybe get a couple bucks...
