Satellite Radio Receiver S Class

Does anyone know if the 2007 (W221) and up (A221 820 77 89) Sirius satellite receivers will work in the 2006 W220 S class. The original receivers are no longer avaialble from MB. I am sure someone has tried this out, anyone???

Thank you very much for the help!

no, the breakdown is as follows: SDARS recievers from W221, W216, W204, W212, and all NTG2.5 radios (2009-10 ML,GL,R,E,CLS) are all interchangeable.. The only exception is that some of these vehicles have SDARS+HD recievers and some do not and not all are HD ready.

SDARS recievers from all the older vehicles are interchangeable: 2006-2008 ML, GL,R,E,CLS,SL,SLK and 2006 and earlier S and CL all use the same type unit... There is a difference in the antenna connections... Older platforms used SDARS tuners with dual separate FAKRA antenna connectors (one sat, one terrestrial) while the newer platforms used the single conbined FAKRA antenna setup. You can still interchange the units but you will need to get a splitter like the TERK SIR-SP which allows you to use the newer single antenna with the older dual tuners.

Also keep in mind that while the sat tuner *kits* are not available anymore, you can still buy just the SAT tuner and extra fiber via parts and then use an aftermarket antenna...

so to answer your question, you cant use a W221 tuner in a W220... but you can use any of the other model older tuners...

Thank you very much for your imput, that really helps out. My car originally had the sat reciever in it but was removed by the previous owner before he traded it in. It has the antenna on the trunk and all the wiring dangling in the left side of the trunk.

I just ordered an A 169 827 01 62 receiver (C-Class)and will install it hopefully before too long. I also ordred a TERK SIR-SP antenna adapter thanks to rob13572468 since the reciever I ordered has only one input. I will let you know how it works shortly. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I installed the receiver last night and it went pretty well. The fiber connector did not have the correct retaining connector so I taped the fiber lines in for the time being. The system came up and displays the ESN number for Sirius which is good. I am now waiting on the antenna splitter before I activate the radio. I may just hook up the satellite side of the antenna and leave the terrestial repeater unhooked and try it out.

so far so good....

Good news, I installed the C-class receiver A 169 827 01 62 in my 2006 S-class and it worked out well. Some roadblocks presented themselves but I figured them out.

The TERK-SIR SP adapter went the wrong way from what I needed. My config was a dual antenna connector antenna going to a one connector C-class radio. The TERK-SIR SP adapter is made to go from a single antenna to a dual input receiver. If I had adapters to conver the ends it may possibly work backwards?? What I ended up doing is filing off one of the tangs on "blue" antenna connector on the sirius receiver and installing the white satellite antenna connector. The blue antenna connecter which is the terrestrial repeater antenna was left off. So far the system is working great on only the satellite antenna.

One other item was attaching the fiber optic lines into the connector on the Sirius receiver. I disconnected the fiber and inserted them into the pre-existing harness but I am missing a small insert into the connector that holds the fiber optic wire ends. I ended up just pushing them into the sockets and taping them into place. So far so good. If anyone has the fiber optic harness retainer I would sure be interested in one. One item to note is that the Fibre Optic wires need to be put in the correct sides on the receiver or the entire system will not work.

This ended up working out well, the reciever I purchased off of ebay for about 125 dollars, and then I bought the TERK SIR SP for 25 dollars that I ended up not using. Everything else was already in the car. My situation is probably different than most since my car came with sat radio but the reciever was taken out by the previous owner to install in their new MB. The Antenna etc was already mounted.

Thanks rob13572468 for all of your help. Your direction really helped me out.

Have a great day!

Hi....

Will be doing the same install in my 05 w220 this weekend.

After reading everything I can find, I'm still a little confused about the MOST fiber hookup. The kit has a cable with 2 fiber optic leads. One end of one lead has no connector. I assume I have to unplug a connector from another component to "splice" in the new connector. Any guuidance would be greatly appreciated!!!

Also, just wondering if I will need to go to the dealer to have it coded. I've seen several posts where people did not have to have it done. If it needs coding, will it just be the SDARS that doesnt work, or will the whole command system not function??

Thanks!!!!

Brian

the kit comes with a coupler... you need to open a connection and then use the coupler to insert the SDARS fiber in line. if you look by the equipment bay you will find a pre-existing splicing coupler which is where you can break in...

no coding is needed to get the SDARS working on MOST systems for W220... cars like W221 need coding to install the menu option but older models do not...

2006 S430 Sirius Install - need adapter

I have all the parts for the job to install the Sirius into my car, however I cannot get the adapter cable. In my kit, it is part # B6 783 0029. I have been piecing this together.

Does anyone know if the B6 783 0026 is the same part, just from another model car?

Thanks.

I installed a 221 receiver in my S-500, and it see the system, and I here one station, but I only see on the screen "acquiring signal" or if I change the screen the Sirius ID and phone number. It will not "Grey's out" the other choices for sound, scan, channel... other.

Has anyone seen this before or know how to fix it?
