BT Pucks: B67876131 vs B67875878?
I could use some help in trying to make an informed decision on which BT puck to buy (new or used) for my 08 E350: the newer B67876131 or the older B67875878?
I've read thru the Sticky, many forum posts, wireless4mb, ebay, etc., and nothing has given me confidence as to which BT puck is the right one to buy.
What are the functional differences between these two pucks?
Some posts and many ads say there are no functional differences, though I recall reading somewhere about older versus newer firmware in some of the 5878's. If it's true that there are no functional differences, then why did MB introduce the new B67876131?
My phones are BB 8830 and BB8530, both on Sprint.
Thanks.

As far as I know there are no functional differences between pucks 5878 and 6131. They have different external appearances. As far as I know, they also have the same Bluetooth core and handsfree profiles.
5878 is blue/silver, and 6131 is black and has a smaller case than 5878. As for why - ask Mercedes.
5878 and 6131 both have Bluetooth 2.0 core firmware. I don't know the HFP and A2DP profiles each uses. Both have newer firmware than the original MHI puck (B6 787 5839) and are compatible with more phones.
I am not about to test, or even track testing, of the multitude of new phones on the market. However, I did try the new Motorola Droid X with my 5878 puck just this week; it paired, and voice quality in both directions was good - but would not download the phone book at all. The sales staff at the Verizon store said they "hoped that would be fixed in Android 2.2 in about 6 weeks."
On the other hand, the iPhone 4 worked perfectly. See posts 20 and 22 at https://mbworld.org/forums/audio-ele...4-upgrade.html (despite the thread heading, the result is good).

Thanks Skylaw.
The folks at wireless4mb say the 6131 and 5878 are functionally the same; only differences are cosmetic.
Other sources claim performance differences between the two pucks, such as "...with the B67875878 you'll have problems with Blackberry phones..."
and "...the B67876131 works better with smart phones and PDAs..."
Hence my confusion over which one to buy.

I understand the confusion. Unfortunately I do not have information on the various Bluetooth profiles (handsfree profile, object profiles, A2DP and the like) that are loaded on top of the BT core in each of the pucks. That is often where differences develop.
If my wife ever gets home from work at a reasonable hour, I can try pairing her new BB Storm II with my 5878 puck. Unfortunately, she is in a long season of 14 and 16 hour days plus weekends - I rarely get to see her at this time of year.

That's good to know MBAgain,
Today I paid for a new 5878, which will be delivered next week. Keeping my fingers crossed that it pairs fully with my BB8830 and 8530.

I just purchsed a used 5878 and it pairs fine w/ my BB 9700. I had to reduce my contacts down from 2000 to ~200, but now the phone book downloads as well.

No. The MB Bluetooth system itself does not support A2DP (music streaming over Bluetooth). I have never seen anyone report that the 6131 puck would do that, and my 5878 puck certainly doesn't.
I'm currently using the B67875878 with a BB Torch in my CLS and it downloads the address book but has a cap, (address book full msg every time it pairs). Does anyone know if the B67876131 has an address book limit?

I believe the limitation is due to memory in the head unit, not the puck. I have seen 250 contacts download successfully, and seen many folks having over 1000 contacts report that not all will download - but I don't know what the absolute limit is.
I just got a Motorola Droid2 and tried to pair it with my 2008 S550. It says that it pairs with the phone and that the phone is authorized and available but then just doesn't connect.
I have the B67875878 BT puck and I tried pairing it manually by holding the Mercedes logo until the lights started flashing and searching from the phone. The phone pairs with that method but I have to connect and disconnect the phone from the BT manually using this method.
Does anyone know if switching to the other puck 6131 will solve this problem? Are there other pucks besides these two? Has anyone successfully paired a Droid2 with the 5878?

I just paired my 2007 S550 with the 5878 and it pairs right up. You have to select the right one to pair with on the Droid2 when you have it search for available devices. It just pairs right up.
But... no address book coming through. Anyone with Droid2 on the 6131 have luck with the address book? I am with Verizon..

2007 W211 with BT puck #5878 (blue/silver)
I have paired the following phones with the above:- Droid, Droid 2, Samsung Omnia II i920.
All the phones have seamless connect/disconnect when I enter the car, with phone BT on.- All the phones do NOT have phone-book/contacts downloaded to the Command.
- Allthe above phones have a very good voice (incoming/outgoing) signal level.
I still use my MBZ phone V710 for both my 11 and 06. One thing I want to do is Bluetooth my 06 with a new puck. Im sick of having to put my phone in the craddle and taking it out and I forget it and leave it in the car all the time. I have one other question. If I use one of he pucks in the 06 will both phones ring, meaning the car and the phone at the same time?

Has anyone had success pairing the HTC Evo phone on Sprint
