CLK 430 radio upgrade

Is it possible to change the headunit and still keep the bose system? Also, does anyone make harness adapters? The car is an '03 CLK 430A.

Thanks -
Jim

2001 CLK430 Cab.
As you can see, few have any answers ref the Bose system. Apparently it is too complex to deal with. I have a 2001 CLK430 without the Bose; just the std. MB radio. I tried to get help also but got very mixed opinions. I finally pulled the trigger and had a new Alpine M/radio layer put in, replacing the radio/tape player. It works great.

You cannot use any other headunits than Mercedes ones for teh bose system since the input on the AMP is fiber optic. You can upgrade to a comand sytem or toss the bose amp for something else.

all of you are wrong
i have a headunit in my clk 320 with BOSE right now. It is the SAME wiring, u just will be utilizing the factory amp still. If you DONT want to use the amp then u just need to run a set of wires to each speaker to bypass the amp. The only thing fiber optic on my car is the cd changer andi have a bose system in the cabriolet.

Even on cars with bose its possible. I have seen it on a 02 clk and my 99. On my c230 i had a standard radio tho and that was cake as well,

Just use the metra harness and antena adaptor.

Hope it helps

03 clk 430a = w208 cabrio i believe, and this is the same as 02 and earlier clk coupes thats why its able to work.

On the 03 there is only fibre optic connection to the amplifier and at this time there is no option other then installing a new amplifier. It is possible to run the new deck to the front and rear speakers directly and add an amp just to run the sub.....

It is a w208. Do you happen to have the metra part numbers? Thanks for the replies.

this is incorrect. You can easily install any aftermarket din sized unit in a w208. There are 2 adaptors you will need to purchase. The wiring harness adaptor and the antenna adaptor. Any stereo shop should have these 2 items in stock. The install takes less than 20 minutes.

Thanks for your help, I will look for the harness this weekend. Is it the VW one that everyone talks about?

How can a aftermarket head unit work with the Bose AMP since the Bose AMP has a fiber optic input. Does the metra adapter convert analog to fiber? Just curious.

2001 CLK 320
Because at least on my 2000 CLK 320 the fiber optic has NOTHING to do with audio. The CANbus (fiber) exists so that the various devices can communicate with one another for data purposes. Actual audio to the AMP and speakers is still carried by the standard wiring.

I have a Kenwood Excelon Sirius/CD-MP3/FM Radio in my car and it's the ONLY aftermarket audio mod I did. Shop had it in in about 20 mins and everything works hunky-dory, even dims when the lights come on.

Regards,

on my 2003 c320 sedan, I have a comand system on it. THe audio output connector is not even used in the rear of the unit. The sound goes out to the bose amp via d2b fiber optic bus. Maybe it's different in the clk.

Where all the wires the same. I remeber I had ordered a harness for my '97 E300 from the Becker Board and it did look like the VW, I checked it out while I was once before working at Circuit and they seemed identical but I think one or two wires wher either missing or out of place..... I'll be doing the same for my dads '99 so I figured I find out the details now as well....

Anbody figured out what the Metra part number for the headunit harness is? I have a 2001 CLK320 with BOSE and need to connect the headunit (a Pioneer) in place of the MZB stock stereo.

MERCEDES CLK 430
1999 CLK 430 MB

I have a problem with changing out my stock unit with an up-to-date radio. I was told my current unit/speakers is supported with a fiber optic wiring set-up. I was told I need an adapter with two inputs for right and left. Does an adapter exist that's FIBER OPTIC over ANALOG that will support my current speaker system?
