After I got my second coupe, my first car was totaled after the hurricane caused floods on my neighborhood, I noticed the tune did not work well with my new car. The 2013 model seems to have some changes in either gearing or throttle response because I think the car feels much quicker than my old coupe. Long story short I took off the JB+ because I was experiencing a CEL every time I went over 3k rpm. Not sure if I'm going to keep the tune, at this point it's out of the car and it feels fast enough.

I just had a '13 loaner coupe yesterday while my '12 sedan was in for service. i also noticed that it felt much more lively thru the RPM midrange than my Juice Box (set @ 70%).

I'm almost certain that it's somehow a LOT more responsive without the tune than with, I think there should be some adjustments made to the platform for the tune to be worthwhile for the new coupes.

It has been about 2 months since i installed the tune and so far i have been very happy with it. I got my first ever CEL last night on my way home from work. I was taking a turn....hard and in the higher rev bands of 3rd gear. I was in manual mode and i must have over boosted or hit the red line a little too long. The CEL came on and the engine switched into the "safe" mode where there is little power available. I pulled over and restarted the car and it did not seem to help as the CEL stayed on. I remember reading about this problem here so i pulled over again, shut off the engine, open/closed the door and locked myself in the car for 2 minutes. Once the 2 minutes went by i restarted and the CEL was finally gone and everything was back to normal. I took it easy on the drive home and i have no issues so far.

Overall i think this engine/turbo combination for this c250 is a little weak. My previous car was a 2004 VW Gti with the 1.8 turbo. I had a cat-back exhaust, REVO tune and a few small extras. HP was estimated at 240 and torque was estimatd at 275. This car was a 5 speed manual and i ragged on it from 2004 until i sold it in October 2012. Very few issues and it took my abuse alot better than this C250. Its a good thing i dont drive as hard as i used to because this Benz would not be happy with my earlier driving habbits.
If you get the code once you'll get it again sooner or later, until you lower the setting of the JB+ per the install guide.

I've looked at the 2013 models and did not notice any differences. But there is some DME to DME variation. So the setting for one DME version will not necessarily work for the next. Adjust the dial accordingly.

Not sure what you mean by DME Terry. I imagine when they started creating a sports transmission for the AMG package they may have altered some of the driving characteristics of the non sport transmission as well, in order to compensate for the very evident turbo lag. I'm not sure what it is but if you drive the new coupe you'll definitely be able to notice it. Who knows whether they even document changes like that?

What I mean by DME is MB's engine management software. They are always doing little updates and changes.

If anyone wants to swing by with a 2013 coupe he'd be happy to datalog it and verify all is good, or made some JB+ tuning adjustments on the fly if needed, which can then be incorporated in to update chips for everyone else out there.

I live on the East coast so it's not possible for me.

I thought i put the error code information in my last post but i guess i did not. I went into "shop" mode while the CEL was on and checked the error before the restart process.

Workshop Code: 505
Service Code: A

Not sure if this is relevant but i only noticed this code while the CEL was on.

Nothing of what you're saying makes any sense... A CEL code reader will give a code like "P20xxx" for our vehicles. You hit over boost, clear the code and the CEL will go away.

No idea what "shop" mode is. Service Code A? Sounds like maybe Service A is needed? Its a 10,000 mile service.

Hi Terry, will the tune work the same on a 2013 SLK? same engine but I do not know if there is something different.

I dont have any equipment to read the error code, i turned off the car and put it into accessory power by hitting the push button start once. I held down the call button & OK on the steering wheel to enter "shop" mode aka "dyno" mode. Here is where i noticed the codes. These codes are never shown when the CEL is off so i thought this was relevant to the CEL since it was still showing. i have only 3200 miles so i doubt that service A is reffering to the next service.

Terry

Do you have a chart that correlates the Boost Pressure to the % setting on the pot? Also, what is the Base pressure of the turbo?

Terry,

What is the stock boost and what is the boost with JB+? Any graph of boost level compared with rpm?

I also have a 2013 C250C. I put the JB+ tune on the car and it gives it more of a lag. Ive tried at stock% 75% and 100%. Right now I am running at 100%. Seems that there is still some lag. I tripped the CEL light also. Anyone know what % gives the peak proformance for a 2013? I have the intake also.

Turning the tune up that much slows the car down, from my experience, I had it at 80% and I was over boosting, I now have it set 60-70% ant it's great

I just did the same last week. I was at 70% and set it off a couple of times.

As Terry stated, if it happened once, it will happen again!

Since setting it at 60%, I " feel" that it is much more responsive. Also, no CEL!

It appears that the sweet spot is in the 50 - 60% range, and going higher just gave us the false hope of MORE POWER!

It's verly likely the intake is causing the lag. This is my experience with aftermarket intakes. Only way to find out is to put your stock on back on and see if it reduces the lag.

FYI I have both tune and intake too. 80% for me was very nice and responsive but would get overboost occasionally. At 70% it's been fine for a week so far, but not as responsive. I would take out my intake to test to see if lag is gone but I've been too lazy and I like the sound of the intake.

Don't feel too sad, the intake has power gains towards higher bands of the RPM .

The CEL doesn't appear to be illuminated in this picture...? Personally, it just seems like a formal reference to "Dyno" mode within Star Diagnostics and the MB Computers.

It's not possible for higher flow intakes to increase lag in a turbocharged system. The C250 motor is a bit laggy though, due to its smaller displacement and compression ratio. The intake does not help or hurt that.

16psi stock in the midrange, 20psi with the JB+. Over 4500rpm or so stock boost is down to 12psi and JB+ boost maybe 13psi.
