Smile Atlanta : C250 Coupe Deal or no deal ?

Hi Everyone, I test drove the coupe the other day and have been head over heels for that car I've been thinking of trading in my relatively new 2011 c300 for the car. My dealer was able to find one with the options i liked, He's offering a $2k MB loyalty bonus plus $600 off the MSRP.. (Also throwing in tinting and all weather mats ). Does this sound like a good deal ? Also, since he's having to locate the car for me, he says he cannot cut out that amount from the cost of this car. He had another on the lot for which he was willing to slash another $400 but not for the one he has to get from another dealer.

I was just wondering if this was a good deal or not, hopefully you guys who just bought one might chip in. I'm in the Atlanta area.

That's a VERY crappy deal. Dealers are giving anything from $2000-$4000+ off MSRP on top of $2000 Conquest/Loyalty bonuses. Where are you located? Maybe inventory really is that bad? Out here in California and most on the east coast are getting very good deals.

Also, the best he was gonna do was, if i went for the car he was getting in the next couple of days he said he could do 1000 below msrp plus the 2k conquest deal. I saw a few cars with the lighting package, but they are all a lil over my budget.

MSRP to invoice on MB is 6%. If you can get close to invoice or below, deal. At 600 off msrp, he's raping you.

@johnny-2k : Invoice ? I'm posting the breakdown he gave me, so according to what you say if i can get the price lower by 2k over the car price then its good. When i mentioned something like this earlier he told me he was already giving me 2k on the trade (the loyalty stuff) and everything he could at the dealership. It seems to be more of an issue with the stock as i cant seem to find cars with the configuration i wanted. I think i'll threaten to walk away , because till now i kept telling him that he was the only dealer i wanted to deal with and thus kept telling him to give me the best price possible.

I think it was a bad strategical move to tell them early on that they were the only dealer you wanted to deal with.

It's better to negotiate your price down with non-preferred dealers and then present that as the price to match and/or beat to your preferred dealer. It's going to be difficult to get as much out of them now I'm afraid.

I don't think you are going to get as much off on a coupe - but using this strategy I was able to get a bit over 10% off MSRP on my sedan.

Go to truecar.com and see what kind of deals people in your area are getting.

The $2k loyalty is ON TOP of what you negotiate as the final purchase price, which means if you can negotiate ~6% off MSRP, you get the $2000 further discounted from that price. Don't let them Jedi mind-trick you into accepting their crappy deal. Dealerships are easily replaceable (although they can see who has what). Go to other dealers and pull the "Joe from x Mercedes says he can get me 5% off MSRP with loyalty, I'm sure you can do better and if you can the deal *could be* yours." Play off that, then go back to original dealer and drop the name and deal (if you really only want to deal with that dealer) to get a better price. If he still won't budge, then f' em. If they're greedy, they lose the deal.

correct, so MSRP of 45K means invoice is around 42,300. The 2K loyalty is ontop of any discounts from msrp. that's extra incentive.

@MDMercedesGuy, @slktyperice and @johnny--2k thanks for the advice guys, after i figured all the numbers in, i talked to another dealer out here who was ready to negotiate but looks like the depreciation on my 2011 is pretty bad ,so i'd either have to take a hit now or wait it out and i think i'll wait it out a few more months, but i guess i got the strategy now. better late than never

aerove26, the spec sheet you posted looks very much like my C250. I was able to secure a total of 12.6% off MSRP. If you are near SF or CT let me know and I can give you my contact info.

12.6% is dealer employee cost, sometimes dealers (depending on the market) have what's called a CAP deal, which is similar to employee pricing that they can pass on to consumers.
