Boot Spoiler
I too could use some help with this one

I now see you can get it optioned on new order C250's but those who already have one or awaiting delivery and want a boot lip spoiler have no where to source one from other than a dealer or not so good aftermarket copies

Not sure where your from, but here in Australia a typical dealer will want around $1,400 for one purchased separately
you've got to keep in mind that cars and parts are priced at 2,3 or 4 times as expensive as they are in the U.S in alot of other World markets.I'm assuming AC63 is not from the U.S since he's got a C250 CDI so he may have the same predicament as myself

As for cost of living it sucks in Countries where it's very high, but hey life goes on

AC63 I can't believe your dealer asked for 3k for what it is essentially a small piece of ABS plastic, I thought my 1.4k quote was already ridiculous enough

We'll eventually get around this one somehow

I have been there and I cant say I thought the cost of living was that high. I spent a month there and was on both the east and west coast. It did not cost more to vacation there than the states.

you must have got away with ultra cheap accomodation, food etc.Try purchasing a house, car etc. etc. and then living there

I've just recently returned from a U.S holiday (San Francisco, California) and the cost of most goods and services was about 1/2 or 1/3 what they cost here...housing however in some parts over there was as expensive as it is here, (in fact as expensive as Sydney Australia) but there were numerous neighbourhoods where a typical home cost about 1/5th to a similar home here, I suppose that's a result of the GFC.
Still even prior to the GFC car costs there have always been a fraction of what they are here.
For the cost of my fully loaded C250 CDI, if I were in the U.S I could've purchased both a C250 and a C63 together

There are other Countries where the costs are even higher still

Pricey but certainly more affordable compared to the prices we have so far for genuine OEM from our dealers.
Does anyone know if it's ok or not to go with items supplied painted ?? reason I ask is because I've been told that colours (especially metallics, pearls etc.) will not always match the actual vehicle and that it's better off to colour match a blank part to your vehicle for a better result.

So what makes the cost of the cars so much higher? Tax import fees?
Shocking!

It's a number of things.
- The cars are more highly spec'ed standard with more choices & no packages. You just tick the options boxes & get what you ordered. There is some trimming done on US cars to save money. e.g. a US car will have one brake wear sensor whereas a SA car will have 4 etc.
- Benz earning the margin that they do in ROW that they can't do in the US & be competitive.
- Duties & Taxes on which Benz gets a kickback on imported models in the range due to having a plant here.
- Strength of currency to the Euro etc.
- Emissions tax
Benz cars are even more expensive in Aus than SA because the government protects the local industry Holden, Ford, Toyota & Mitsubishi. On top of that the cars attract a Luxury Vehicles tax in Aus.
The US & Saudi Arabia have the cheapest cars in the world but in Saudi the trimming that takes place is awful. e.g. no airbads unless requested and paid for. This even goes for Porsche models. Imagine a Porsche with zero airbags
- available in Saudi.Aus & SA also have higher taxes placed on fuel that makes it so expensive compared with the US but not as bad as UK & some places in Europe.
Everything is silly cheap in the US but of course this has destroyed the local manufacturing industry & made countries like China wealthy.

At least there's the possibility of sourcing and acquiring items/goods from the U.S.
I recently purchased a brand new set of Mazda MPS3 wheels (MazdaSpeed 3 in the U.S) and all up including the freight charge to Australia cost me almost 1/4 of buying the same wheels here new from Mazda Australia - go figure on that

So on the topic of the boot spoilers, can any U.S folk help in sourcing or supplying contact details etc. of a source of supply for those for us people interested
