Funny smell after driving - New Car

hi guys,

I just drove the car back from the dealer yeaterday and did another trip today. All up I have 60kms on the C250.

I noticed after coming home from the dealer yesterday and after returning from a drive today that there was a slight burning smell. Nothing strong, just faint.
I'm guessing this is because the car is brand new?

Two questions:

1. Do you guys get this as well up to a certain number of kms/miles while the car is new?
2. is this something I should worry about?

Thanks in advance

I now have 3700 km on my car, i noticed when idling, a faint smell of burning coolant, i have asked some of my friends if they can smell it and they do agree its some sort of a coolant smell.

im not sure if you noticed, but, our front fenders, on both sides get extreme ****ing hot, like, you cant even put your hands on it, i have no idea if this is intended or if anyone else has noticed this, but after your car is running for about 45 min, rest your hand on either one of the fenders.

Yes mine had a burning smell too, I was told it's from the gasket. It should be gone after awhile, mine was gone after the first tank of gas so 600km~

Thanks for the reply.
My front fenders don't get hot at all. Just got back from a 2 hour drive and the fenders were very slightly warm but definitely not hot.

Are the hot fenders a common issue?

Most if not all new cars will emit some kind of 'mechanical' smell when new, it's nothing to be worried about

An obvious fault would be more noticeable than faint wearing in smells.

Usually it'll be new painted surfaces heated up wearing in and giving off smells, it's also caused by new rubber pipes, some metal exhaust parts etc. running in from being initially heated up.

All of the new cars I've ever had across many different brands over many years have always had that trait

After parking your car for a few hours, do you notice any puddles or drip stains under your car?

That would be one of the more obvious things I mentioned above that could be a fault.

One you can count out is a large water puddle if you'd been using the airconditioner before hand

Picked up my new C250 on Thursday, and I'm noticing the same slight smell. From previous messages on the forum, it sure sounds like it's a common thing.

Yeah, definitely common, noticed this with my DI G37 too. They go away after a couple hundred miles. After some aggressive driving, I also notice some "pinging" after the car is off. Sounds heat related.

Sounds like what's happening is that when the fluids were topped off it may have been spilled/splashed a bit in the engine bay. Most likely coolant that eventually burnt off after a few weeks. In this case, it's all good.
