the hid kits use to be $250 or so but can now be purchased for much less via ebay.
hope this helps.

If you can wait till the weekend I'll post up pics of a recent one I did showing what's required and the product packaging of the HID kit I used which you can then source from the net or shop - again as pointed out by andrew it is fairly straight forward to do

the kit comes with xenon bulbs, ballast, relay etc...
a set i installed in a prior car... here are the pics of where i mounted the hid hardware (you must have a flat surface). the relays are mounted using existing posts...i added a nut to secure relay. extra wire ties keep things nice and tightie (lots of extra wire). the boxes and hardware seem to be smaller in size now (this kit was in a '04 crossfire i had).

I am in the same boat as you. My 2012 C350 came without the lighting package (bought mine December 2011 when cars with lighting package were scarce).
Does anyone know how difficult it would be to change out halogen headlights for these original OEM xenon headlights? Is it even feasable?

I'll still put up some pics of mine too on the weekend for further assistance if it helps, I'll note that for a couple of the HID installs I've done (3 different vehicles to date - 2 Opels and one Mazda) the 2 Opels required some 'minor surgery' to the plastic/rubber backing cover of the main headlight beams on the back of the headlight assembly, but from andrew's description above it would seem there's no need as was the cae for my Mazda.
One other aspect to keep in mind is that for headlight main beam assemblies which are not of the projector type, installing HID's may cause some problems with the light beam spread and 'dazzling' to other road users I'm not sure how well or not the standard MB OEM headlight assemblies work with HID's installed, all my vehicles I've done listed above have projector headlight assemblies and work well with HID's.
