Anyone using an X pipe on their '12+ C350?

I've been searching this topic like crazy and I'm seeing mixed reviews. Not ready to spend 3K on a full system at the moment, so wondering if a resonator delete is the way to go. (I'm keeping the mufflers, I'm not 19yrs old) (2012 C350)

This car gives some grunt when you get on it, but I want a little more bark. I had the OEM Performance Exhaust on my BMW and kinda miss that sound now.... thought I wouldn't, but I do... So, Few questions; for those that have an X pipe installed.
1. Do you get any drone?
2. Does it 'really' sound good?? (I've heard the Youtube vids, but it's hard to tell from that)
3. Which X pipe brand did you get? (I know there's a few different brands out there and different designs can cause different sounds from what I've read)
4. Do you regret doing it?

I don't want to take from the "classy" feel of the car, but want a slightly louder soundtrack from the back.

Thanks!

1. I barely get any...i know in the older model c300's you do.
2. Yes it sounds good, being in 2nd gear and 5000k rmp you can probably turn heads.
3. i got magna flow....after all they're reviews I hear they're the best.
4. nope. absolutely not....for a mod like this that literally cost like $220 and keeps your factory warranty, i don't see why everyone shouldn't get one...100% worth it!

Nickanna:
I mounted a magnaflow x-pipe on my C 350 Coupe - 2012 yesterday and i am very satisfied but also slightly disappointed.
If we start with your questions:
1, No drone at all
2, I have only heard from inside the car and with windows down you hear a nicer an deeper note. Outside, I have not heard yet but but seems like this is where you hear the biggest difference.
Why I am somewhat slightly disappointed is because I also come from a BMW with performance exhaust system (BMW 135i - 2011) and my hope was that it would sound something like that. Sadly, it does unfortunately not. The growl and bark is not there!
3, Magnaflow
4, No, I have no regrets whatsoever. The note is very classy mercedes but with a more aggressive and louder tone.

Thank you moegunz & Carteen for your feedback. Looks like Magnaflow is the best bet. Glad to hear that it's not obnoxious too. (I'm not old, but well past that stage in my life)

I appreciate the BMW reference too. Since this is a sub $200 mod, I'm not expecting it to sound like my $1100 BMW exhaust. However, it seems like the way to go since performance systems are limited for our cars and therefore 2x the cost of a BMW system in most cases.

One question I forgot to ask; the additional pipe that's needed (since res is longer than the Xpipe) did the shop use/have stainless or just galvanized when you did yours?

Again, thank you both for your input.

The shop will have pipe....they will put it in...keep the receipt because if you end up getting a leak, they should fix it!

I have now listened to the exhaust noise from the outside and I am very much satisfied.
It sounds very potent but in a classy Mercedes way. From 4000-7000 it is significantly higher exhaust sound but again in a very sophisticated way.
Scale of 1-10 I give this modification 9 after I heard the exhaust noise from the outside .

Thanks for the feedback. I scheduled an appointment with a local shop to go over my options/estimate.

Have a good one!

Hey Nickanna,

Did you get this done? I just ordered mine and wondered where you put the extender pipes... Towards engine or other side?

Thanks

Hey Sean,

I decided against doing the x-pipe since there is no custom pipe made for the C350 (only the C63). I had my car in the air at the shop and realized the additional aluminized piping added to the stainless system and x pipe wouldn't sit well with me and my OCD-ness. I decided to order the Meisterschaft GT Racing rear boxes. I'm leaving the stock resonator in and just doing the axle back. It'll give me the sound I'm looking for (not too loud and no drone) and keep the rest of the stock exhaust intact. I went with the 2 tips to keep the stock look (plus I have the 3 fin diffuser made for the dual pipes ).

Hopefully someone else will chime in and be able to answer your question. Good luck with it

-Eric

Good choice Eric! I'd go that route if I hadn't already spent $500 on headlights this month... Missus is losing patience!

Pics (and link pls) on the diffuser or it didn't happen!

That's the next thing I want to do but only really see them for the quad pipes...

Thnks

Here are some pics. I don't usually buy parts from overseas, but ebay was the only place I could find the diffuser for the dual pipe setup. Fit and finish was okay. I had to do a couple of things in order to make it work properly. I'm happy with the finished product.

Nickanna,

Any chance you can post up a video of the Meisterschaft GT Racing rear boxes when you get them installed? Really curious to hear how they sound!

newbie

Hi all

Glad I came across this thread. I've just been lurking for awhile now.
Picked up a new C350 coupe back in June and have been thinking about doing an exhaust mod along the lines of what is being discussed here.

I've been leaning towards the Meisterschaft GT boxes. Would really like to hear Nickanna's setup, if a video is possible.

MrChameleon,
Congrats on the new ride and welcome to the forum!

Typically the sound quality online is horrible, but I'll be sure to post a video as soon as I have it installed. :-)

Thank you for the welcome, appreciate it. I understand what you mean about the video audio, usually nothing to hang your hat on. I'm listening for that subtle purring at the very end of a rev. Sorta the heartbeat of the engine so to speak. Hoping the Meisterschaft gear is the solution.

This is my first Mercedes, and certainly not the last. I believe I've found my comfort zone with this great blend of class and performance.
Look forward to interacting here on the forum with all you fellow owners of similar models.

best regards,

Chris

Sorry guys... may be a slight delay in me doing this exhaust. While I'm still waiting on final pricing from my local performance shop; my 16 yr. old daughter got into a car accident Monday night. She's OK and that's the main thing, but the car is totaled (airbags, bent frame, etc...). Since it wasn't worth much, we only carried liability on it, but now need to work with her on another vehicle. Joy...
I attached a few pics. The side curtain airbags and shoulder bag in the seat did their thing. She refused treatment at the scene

Sorry to hear about that bro. The accident doesnt even look that bad for the airbags to go off. But, the main thing is that she is safe. Any chances of her joining the benz family?

haha, not a chance Thanks, safe IS the main thing. Shook up and nervous about driving right now, but she's back on the horse. It looks worse in person to be honest. Spun the car around 180 deg and buckled the opposite fender, drive shaft is screwed, etc... Funny because the drives wheel looks straight in that photo, but it had like neg. 17 deg camber if you look at it from the side . Sold for scrap last Friday.

Good news is we got it all sorted out, so my exhaust is officially on order as of this morning. 4-6 weeks for delivery is what they are telling me, so hopefully I'll get it installed before Christmas. Video/pics to follow for those that posted with interest.

All positive and great responses. I like that. After my sister got into her first accident she was shaken up at first, but we had to force her to get back up in the saddle. Cant wait to hear how the car sounds bro!

Glad to hear all is well with your Daughter after the accident. Thankfully cars are much safer today then ever before overall.

Also congrats on ordering the new exhaust system. Look forward to hearing all about it. (literally speaking too lol)
Be nice to get it before Winter sets in.

Glad to hear your daughter's OK after the accident, Nickanna! Give her some time and i'm sure she'll be riding again with confidence in no time.

P.S. the exhaust system will sound mean on cold start during winter
