Question about keyless entry

I just got my first Mercedes C 300.

The dealer explained how, with the key in my pocket, as long as I touch a certain spot on the door, the door will unlock. This rarely happens.

Also, he explained there was a spot where I can put my foot under the rear bumper, when with key in pocket, will open the trunk. I have never been able to do this.

So could my fob need a new battery? It's a relatively new car. Or are these features things I misunderstood or were falsely told to me?

On your door handle you should see a small rectangular indent. touch that spot to lock, grab the inside of the handle in the same area to unlock. Note that if you press the lock button twice on your fob, this deactivates the keyless entry. For the kick to open trunk, yeah you have to keep swinging your foot back and forth until you find the sweet spot.

To open, pull the handle without touching the outside of the handle. To lock, touch indent on outside of handle without touching the inside of handle. Mistake new owners usually make is letting part of their hand touch the opposite surface of the handle from the side they need to contact.

To open trunk using kick, kick your foot directly under the Mercedes emblem on the trunk. Works Everytime!!

Thanks all. I guess I just don't have the nuances down yet. Glad to see it's a human error only!

Aside from the key, the switch inside the door, and hands free trunk access, can the trunk be opened manually?

No it cannot. One of the first things the sales rep pointed out to me.

MBWorld Fanatic: I have a 2019 C300 Cabriolet - Base model. Would you expect it to have the foot under rear bumper open option? It does work as described in this post to unlock driver/passenger doors with keyless entry. If it has a sensor in the rear bumper, I can’t seem to find it.

If it's a base model then it won't have that, it was an option as part of a package. As standard you just have keyless go. The big giveaway is that if you have the keyless entry then you have a little rectangle on the door handle.

What is the function of the little rectangle on the door handle? I thought that was simply you press it and it locks for doors.
