C300 price & Fuel economy

Hi guys, how much should a 2017 29k miles c300 coupe cost and what fuel mileage do you guys get on c300?

Does 31k USD(before tax) sounds resonable?

options:
sport package
premium pk
night package

Edit: I’m in USA

It would help if we knew where you are and what type of car. Also the year you are looking for. May I also suggest KBB.COM. There are a few posts on here about mileage.

I think it depends where in Canada, I know out west cars are a bit more expensive vs the East here. for a period of time it was a bit more because of shortages.

I think the price is set for now because a lot of the 18s are being mass sold from lease returns and dealers want to get rid of inventory to make way for the upcoming facelift C205s and the new C206s.

I bought my 18' C300 4matic with 22k Miles 4 months ago for $36k CAD. has: Sport pkg, premium, p. plus, led lighting, etc.

I have owned a 2018 C300 4matic coupe for 18 months. My typical fuel mileage when commuting is 25-27 mpg, driving moderately. On the highway, I have averaged over 32 mpg across a 600-mile trip cruising at 75 mph with as high as 36 mpg for sections of flat (non-hilly) driving.

That said, one difference is that the 2018 has the newer 9-spd transmission, which I believe gives it a +1 mpg advantage in the EPA rating.

Price-wise, $31k does not sound too far out of line, though maybe on the high side. The car in the photos does appear to have some options like the 19" wheels and sport package which would add to the price.

Thank you for the info!! Really appreciate it.

if you don’t mind me asking, how much did you bought your for? And I’m hearing about the engine/piston problems on these c300. Is that a common issue? Which years have that problem?

I paid $35k in Dec 2020 with 14k miles. It does not have the sport or night packages, but it has the extra cost real leather interior and designo cardinal red metallic exterior.

Regarding the engine, I did read that the 2016-2017 versions of the 2.0T engine were more prone to failure. Not to scare you, but in my research I decided to keep looking until I found a 2018 or 2019 in my price range. I could have had a 2017 for around $32-33k at the time, but decided to pay a bit more. I liked the idea of the 9-spd transmission and the larger infotainment screen. It's mostly stock but I would like to replace these factory wheels.

I wish there was a way to check which specific ones are affected or not. Btw what are some of the things you like and dislike about the car?

Here are my likes and dislikes:
Dislikes:
  1. Initially when I first got the car, there were creaking sounds coming from multiple areas of the interior when I would drive over bumps or undulations in the pavement. After some research, I bought a bottle of Krytox lubricant and applied it to all of the weatherstripping in the panoramic roof, doors, and trunklid. (I should have done the hood also, but didn't think of it at the time. In any case, the noises all went away, and now the car is much more enjoyable to me.
  2. It did not come standard with Android Auto. I added the ZZ-2 Carplay/Android Auto aftermarket kit, and it works well enough (not perfectly) that the car doesn't feel current with technology. I also added a wireless charging pad that replaces the console ashtray, and that was a very nice upgrade.
  3. I do not like the stock wheels at all. I see a similar design on everyday vehicles, and to me they just don't fit the car. If it had the multispoke 19" or the 5-spoke 18" factory wheels I would have been happy, but the split-spokes just look cheap to me. When the original tires wear out I'm planning on upgrading to 19" aftermarket wheels and tires. And I have spent way too much time shopping for tires.
  4. I wish it had cooled seating and a heated steering wheel. I traded in a 2015 Ford Fusion Titanium that had both, so oddly that spoiled me.
  5. Running costs, including maintenance and insurance, are fairly expensive.
  6. Now that it's out of warranty, I dread the thought of a major mechanical issue because I know it would be very expensive.
That is pretty much it for dislikes. All are fairly minor and fixable.

Now the likes:
  1. I love the exterior styling. I was never one to drool over any M-B (other than perhaps the classic 300SL), but I was drawn to the C300 coupe the first time I saw one in a parking lot. It has smooth, classic lines that I think will age very well.
  2. The interior design is stunning yet functional. Mine has the light tan genuine leather interior with polished wood accents and black trim on the doors and dash. The seats are comfortable for long trips (10+ hours). The interior is what sold me on that car after looking at the Lexus RC, Audi A5, and Mazda6.
  3. It has a great balance of compliant ride and sharp handling. I'll never take it on a track, but it will carve turns very nicely while also absorbing most bumps. It can be harsh on bad potholes, and in fact I ruined a tire after hitting a particularly sharp one last spring.
  4. The performance is plenty adequate, though not neck-snapping. The 2018 is rated at 0-60mph in under 6 seconds, so though you won't outrun a Plaid, it is plenty fast for spirited driving.
  5. The car is very quiet inside (now that I fixed the creaking). I don't need to announce my presence with a loud exhaust, but that said, the engine does have a sporty sound from the inside..
  6. The Burmester sound system is very clean and balanced and will more than fill the interior with undistorted sound.
  7. For a sporty car, the trunk is fairly large. My wife and I drove 900 miles to Florida in February for a 2-week stay, and we were able to fit everything we needed, including a cooler.
  8. Also for a sporty car, it is fuel-efficient, as I mentioned before.
  9. Knock wood, I have had 0 problems over 20 months and 12k miles of driving.
Overall, I love owning the car. It's a joy to drive, and I plan to keep it for many years.

That appears to be a well optioned example. The Burmester upgrade will be an appreciated option.

$31k doesn't seem out of line in this market. With significantly lower production, you will typically see a premium on coupes over sedans.
Unless it's Certified Pre-Owned you'll be out of warranty even with the low miles.

MPG is going to vary from driver to driver, but an average in the mid 20's should be easy with well above 30 MPG achievable during highway driving.

Here are a couple of real world fuel economy examples I happened to capture. The 2nd was with 2 people and full of luggage in the winter.

Indy to Virginia, March '21

Indy to Jacksonville, Feb '22
