The Night My Car Got F'ed

Got nailed by a guy running straight through a solid red light. Hit me in the rear driver's side quarter panel and spun me around, narrowly missing a car stopped at the red light he should have been stopped at, and put me up on the curb about a foot from smashing into a huge concrete block at the base of a light pole. The left rear wheel is totally tweaked and it looked like the control arm was hanging down. The muffler didnt line up at all with its opening, the trunk wont close, bumper is f'ed, wheel is scraped... oh what fun. Gonna get a rental tomorrow hopefully. I'm thinking its totaled, largely due to the fact that my car has a salvage title. (Got it from a guy who runs a salvage business strictly for Benzes and who also builds amazing hand-made replicas of 300sl Gullwings) Anybody else have an opinion as to my car's fate????

Couldnt tell you the fate of your car, depends how much the insurance company wants to put into it. I know when I was sideswiped by a Toyota Pre-Runner it barely dented the drivers front and rear door. It cost 2,500$ USD to have it fixed. All that damage doesnt sound good. Glad to hear you are ok though. I wish people would stop at red lights, it would make things safer for us all!

at frist they werent going to total it cause they had some regular body shop do the estimate, but I made them use the Mercedes Shop estimate (like 90/hr labor or w/e it is) plus the a and b pillar weren't striaght and you cant resell a car thats had that done to it. It totally takes the value out of it. That was my moms C class I think insurance gave her 13,000 for it, it was a 99. So she moved up to an E class. I got a 96 C280 now http://www.club202.com/forums/showth...&threadid=5968 :v

Well, my insurance company hasn't officially totaled my car, but the guy at the body shop who looked it over said he was pretty sure it would be. So, I spnt all day looking at cars. I test drove a 97 E320 with 100K miles, moonstone gray, light gray leather, traction. Its in pretty good shape, there are some little things like the rear view mirror adjuster doesn't work, and the sunroof doesn't open, though all those things would be fixed. They are asking 11,900. The only thing preventing me from really wanting it is a small split in the dash near the airbag on the passenger side. Aside from it being unsightly, I don't want it to interfere with the airbag. Has anyone heard of an kind of way to repair this kind of damage? I'm also afraid it would spread in the AZ summer heat...

Well, I believe he sold the business awhile ago. I think it was called Gullwing America. He made the bodies out of aluminum with some kind of composite sandwiched between. He used c280 drivetrains as well. All the interior leatherwork was hand done, and the chassis were made from square tubing. I'm not sure how many he made total, but at any given time he had around 3-5 in the process of being built. He did try once to make one with an AMG v-12, but I guess there was so much anti-theft stuff built into the computers he never got it to work. Honestly, these cars were soooooo gorgeous. You really could not tell they were replicas until you looked under the hood. This guy also had a junkyard with more wrecked Mercedes and Mercedes parts than I've ever seen in my life. By the way, my car has been totaled. I found a 94 325i Convertible with 70K that is in absolutely beautiful shape, black on black, that I am going to get. I guess I'll have to move over to bimmerforums.com...
