1996 C220 OEM Tape Player.

Anybody know where I can pick up an OE/M Tape Player for a '96 C class other than the dealer? I left a window slightly open and we had a storm and my radio is wacked out now. The radio turns on and 'works' but you cannot change the station, or press any of the buttons. The LCD screen is clear unless you turn on the headlights. Come to think of it, with the headlights already on, you cannot turn ON the radio. Perhaps I can just reset it by disconnecting the battery.. but it sounds hosed up to me.

Tried them already. Didn't have one in either the MD or FL warehouse. I've never had much luck with them for some reason. I will call Silver Star and try my hand there.

Try the following:

www.gapa.com
www.slaccessories.com
www.mercedesshop.com

They should have what you are looking for.

I saved the stock radio/tape player when I had my stereo installed (I also have a 96 220).

I would be willing to sell my unit to you. However, I seem to remember someone saying that they were code protected, and that you have to put a code in when you re-install. I don't know if that's true or not, so you might want to check that out.

If you want to buy it let me know & we'll work something out. It worked perfectly when the shop took it out.

One thing you may consider is looking in your manual. Just today I found my code on a little card that was in my manual. Hope you still got yours.

Jason H,

Actually I would be very interested in a purchase. Mercedes Benz said they don't have one handy at the moment and directed me to Becker Auto Sound, NA. It would cost around 300.00 to get mine fixed, so picking up a new unit quicker and for a little less would be excellent. You can get the code from MB NJ. You would have to do this. You should also have the Radio Identification Card somewhere in your MB Binder that contains all your booklets.

Drop me a line offline at mattncolorado@yahoo.com and let's see if we can't punch out a deal.

I think I may still have the manual for the radio in my garage, hopefully the code would be in it.

If you are interested in the radio, I'll look for the manual.

Let me know,
Jason

I don't have a clue what the stereo is even worth. Does anyone have any idea?

I guess you could just send me an email with an offer if you want?

What I think it's worth is relative. I know I can pay 300 to have my existing one fixed and I feel that's more than it's worth. Maybe somebody else will have an idea. Like I said, I'm motivated to obtain one as soon as right this second! lol
