Oil Change - 99 C230 ?

Hey all, im new here. Recently purchased a used 1999 C230 a few months back.

Its time for a oil change and i was wondering if anyone could answer the questions below for me, i usually change my own oil in my cars but never had a benz so thought i would ask questions.

1. Where is the filter located ?
2. Were is the plug to drain located under the car ?
3. Which is the best oil to use ? (I live in Texas)

Do i need any special tools or can i used my regular tool set ?

I called the dealer and they said it would be around $150-160 so i figured i would get on the net and see if i could do it myself.

Thanks

filter cap on drivers side of engine.
Get yourself an extractor or build one out of a mighty vac from harborfreight tools.griots, pela, top sider also make nice units.
6.5qts of oil @5bucks filter $7,topsider on sale $50 total 90 bucks ....
never having to crawl under the car to change oil and never needing to get ripped by the dealer for $160 priceless.
and your next oil change is only $40 since you have the topsider already

Just take it to....Walmart. Yup, Walmart. Take my C220 there all the
time. If you use synthetic can get an oil change with Mobil 1 for around
$38. They won't have a filter for your car so you have to bring
your own but they'll give you a discount. Just make sure you check
that they put your oilcap back on (they forgot one time with my car).
I'd double check on the oil amount. 6.5 quarts sounds like a lot. My
C220 only takes 5.5.

Nobody working at WalMart knows anything about MB, definately not enough to do any work. The fact that they could do something like forget the oil cap (or that they do not even stock the correct filter) says everything you need to know.

def. don't take it to walmart, only takes about 15 mins anyway to diy. 13mm on the drain plug I recall, and the filter wrench is a generic size you can find at autozone but I don't recall offhand which size.

Walmart will put in any oil that they carry, and they carry a pretty
wide range. If you supplied your own oil my guess is they'd even be willing to put that in.
So you can either pay the stealership $160, probably pay close to that at an indy, crawl under the car yourself, or pay $38 to Walmart.

walmart is not going to put in

the proper amount of 0w40 mobil mb spec oil and your fleece filter for 38 bucks without losing money and they are not going to use the suction method at all and if the car is level and they drain it from the bottom the way the pan is laid out they will not get all or most of all the oil out.Glad you think you can trust your jewel of an engine to some kid at walmart,I suppose you would take it to jiffy lube
ohlord
when they forget to put the cap on,how far from forgetting to install the drain plug?Which I have had friends have happen at those cheapo places.

Just a tip for the DIY "FSS A Service" folks . . . even if you're using a topsider or mityvac to suction the oil, do take the time to get under the car to inspect, with proper lighting, the spring perches, brake hoses, ball joints, tie rod joints and all the other rubber/metal pieces that make up the suspension.

Well, you'd have to supply the filter and I'm sure anyone can get in
the proper oil amount, just as they can get out all the oil through the
drainplug, the way its designed. This is an oil change, not rocket science.
