Spent $726 in less then a week!!1

Last sat my car started misfiring, and i took it to servis and it cost me $245

Now i changed my Brake pads
Bake Pad sending Unit
Emergency Brake Shoe
Tie Rod End

with a total of: 481

And the thing is my mom used my car and she wore out my emergency break shoe and the brake pad sending unit.
So she caused me $150 worth of damage

Elvir

p.s. Someone please tell me there is still a good reason i should keep this car and instead of buying a 98 VW golf GTI VR6 or a VR6 JEtta

I was told that you can't just change a tie rod on the w202 and that you had to replace the whole assembly including the centerlink and the other tie rod. Did you replace the whole thing?

Regards,

Don

Because then you would own a VW instead of a Benz. The lesson here is NEVER let anyone else drive your car.

( I've had my car for 17 months and my wife has not even driven it...yet....ever )

Im sure they replaced the whole thing, because my first mechanic said that i had to replace only a small rubber piece which cost $3.00 but, my other mechanic charged me around $55.00, so im pritty sure that he replaced the whole thing, and my dad told me too that they cannot just replace the rubber part but the entire tie rod.

Well, IMO if a person is buying an expencive car, hes supposed to prepare to spend some cash on it. Driving a fast cars was never a cheap hobby. Imo 700+$ its not that bag.

I've just changed my front brake pad too, together with the wire. I don't know what is the

Bake Pad sending Unit
Emergency Brake Shoe
Tie Rod End

Is that only applicable for C200 and above.

I only spent $40

I wouldnt be too quick to take this advice. Just do some hw before you pay him a visit to sell the car if you decide to.

Hmm...I ask myself why Keep my C36 all the time. Things that have gone wrong so far:

1) MAS
2) Head Gasket
3) Ball joints X3 times
4) Catalytic Converter (weld seams coming apart)
5) Steering Dampner
6) Warped Cylinder Head

Things that are going wrong right now:

1) Ball Joints (again)
2) Tie rod ends
3) Blower motor
4) Faulty/loose wiring that make the lights on the driver side of the car go on and off when I hit bumps
5) sticky shift stick

Things i'm waiting for to go wrong: (based on others with a w202)

1) Engine wiring harness (common problem cause MB used some biodegrable insulation on them wires)
2) Flex disc

So far I have had huge problems with my car but why do I stil keep it?

Only reason is that I paid so much for it that it's not worth it to sell it back now.

BTW I have 111,000 KM on my car.

i ask myself that alot when i read all the common problems on this board. i havent really had my share of massive problems like many of you have posted about, but then again ive only owned my 98 c230 for a year and driven about 4k miles. (currently 57k)

makes me wonder if i'd get another mercedes when im ready to buy another car. im definetly getting something euro...

bmw/audi or something, anyone know much about these cars interms of maitenence, reliability, durability?

i know the differences performance wise and $$$ wise... test drove a 328i, 2.8 a4 quattro before I bought my benz (it felt the most luxrious and comfortable out of the 3). bmw was best performance wise, but audi was somewhere inbetween luxory and performance.

BMW has enough reliability problems of their own. Just look at the X5. Audi is just a Volkswagen with leather seats and some wood grain. They don't have the best reliability ratings either. The new Beetle got "10 worst" in reliability ratings in cosumer reports. At least the M class didn't even win that. (surprisingly)

The E class won top ten in reliability. The w202 C class was on up there. Mercedes trouble spots for this year are still the M class and the new C class (w203). The worst car is the Lincoln Continental requring and average of $3,357 per year in non maintainance work. The Toyota Tacoma was best with an average of $58 per year in non maintainance costs. You have to realize, when a car like Mercedes puts so many electronic gizmos in a car, stuff is going to go wrong. At least we don't have mechanical problems to deal with on a regular basis. I mean really, has any of you ever been stranded on the side of the road in a Mercedes?

one time i couldnt start my car when it was real cold (i was in my garage) mercedes roadside assistence came and jump started me and recommended that i buy a new battery suitable for winter
