Wheel width question......

Hey all. This is my first post!

I have a '96 C280 with the OEM 15X7's on it. I'm about to purchase Carlsson 1/6 evo's (diamond ed.) One configuration is to have 18x8's front and 18x8.5's on the rear. The other is to go 18x8.5's all around. Are 8.5's too wide for the front. I'd like to go 8.5's all around so I don't have to deal with 2 different tire sizes.

Any input would be appreciated! Thanks!

Thanks for the info. I found out that they weren't 8.5 wide after all, they are 18X9's. So i'll probably go with those in the back and 18x8's up front.

amg actually modifies the front inside fenders of c-class w202 to accomodate 225-45-17 on 17x7.5 to prevent rubbing. my friend had c280 and got 17x7.5 with 225-45-17 dunlop sp8000...he said it only rubs on full lock...

Talking Just ordered!

I took the plunge and ordered my wheels! 18x9's R, 18x8's F - Carlsson 1/6 Evo Diamond Editions. With Kuhmo tires (255/35/18 and 225/40/18) it came to $1500 out the door. I guess this design is being phased out and tirerack have them on closeout. The 18x9's are only 149each! Not a bad deal. I can't wait to toss these 15x7 "bicycle wheels" =)

Next thing.....lowering it an inch. Any suggestions on an economical way to do this? I've seen Eibach springs for around $200 but have no clue on how much it costs to install.

I want those wheels!!!! $149 Each?????
You'll like the Kumhos. Don't expect more than 15000 miles out of them though. Eibach springs for $200? Where?? Installation will be around $150 and expect $90 for an allignment. You will need the camber adjustment bolt from the dealer as well. Get 4 packs for $7.50 each. Don't let people tell you that you can ride on your stock shocks. You Can't!!! (maybe if they are really new you can) I'd go with Bilstein Sport shocks or Koni Yellow Adjustables. Expect to pay $350 for a set of four. So let's total this up.

150+90+30+350=$620.00

Yep, 149.00 for the 18X9's because they're rear only. 299 for the 18x8's. Still a good deal at 299. The same 18X9's are $659 each at highlinewheels....ouch!

I was mistaken on the Eibachs. They are 275 for the pro kit at tirerack.

Thanks for the info!

I'm in Sacramento. Not too far away.... After my tire purchase, it may be awhile before I get the springs but we'll hook up when I do! Thanks!

Wheels Installed

The wheels are on and I decided to replace the front rotors and pads while I was at it. Here's a link since I can't seem to figure out in-line images.

Next project was to lower it but after seeing Doug's exhaust setup, I'm going that route next! Doug, is your car pearl black (a dark metallic charcoal color)? Looks the same as mine.

Looks nice but you NEEEEEED to lower that puppy.

I just saw the same wheel/tire size setup installed on a C43 (same deal ffrom TireRack), with H&R springs... it looked SWEET. We were gonna take pics but I forgot.

It's called Anthracite. I think it's the same color you're talking about. Thanks for the comment on the exhaust. I just looked at your link. It is the same color. Those wheels look awesome on that car. I wish I had gone that route but I was foolish in the day when I was picking out my wheels. Now I just want everything to be Carlsson.

Thanks Doug. I've come to realize Carlsson stuff (besides wheels) is pretty hard to find. As far a tagging my car, I want to replace the C280 with the raised "Carlsson" as well as the star on the hood with the flat Carlsson badge.

I've also seen the larger Carlsson badge for the truck lid but i'm thinking that may be too much. Any thoughts? Leave the trunk lid star with the Carlsson letters or de-badge the C280 and replace the trunk star with just the large Carlsson badge?

Here's a link to what they look like:

Carlsson Badges

Any thoughts?

I would debadge all of the back and just put on the Carlsson raised letters. I don't know about changing out the front because there's nothing better than looking down the hood and seeing that three-pointed-star.
