C230K Rear Brake Application

After my last track event, I warped the rear rotors on my 99 C230K and need to bite the bullet on upgrading from the standard non-slotted rear rotors. I'm wondering if I can use calipers and rotors from a 99 C43 and still be able to mount my 15" street tires. While I run 18" on the track, I'm trying to resolve the brake issue without having to get into another set of wheels. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Regards,

>>FYI, 95 C36 rear brakes are identical to 400E w124 rear brakes. The C43, and E55 (w210) had 600SL R129 rear brakes.<<

This is from a great thread on rear brake upgrades at club202.com : http://www.club202.com/forums/showth...+brake+upgrade

I will be interested to see what you find out. My guess is that the new brakes will be too large and not have enough clearance to work with 15" but I am just guessing and don't have any facts to back that up. You can get a set of AMG wheels off craigslist fairly cheap. 18" look nice but I wonder if 17" might be a bit more optimal in terms of sweet spot for weight and torque transfer for the track on a 230k?

What track did you go to for your track day? Road Atlanta? Roebling Road (sp?)? How did the c230k hold up?

This is also a good thread:

Sounds like the C32 front upgrade is the best performance boost.

Thanks for the guidance and links! We ran up at Road Atlanta this past weekend with VCDA. I've been doing all of the PCA DE events for the past three years here with side-stops at Barber and Roebling. The car has been great. Between reworking the suspension and chipping the engine, I have a lot of fun in the twisties. You may have a good point on the tire size. With the car lowered, I had to do a little fender flaring. This car is also a daily driver with a 76 mile roundtrip commute. I get a lot more commuting mileage out of the 15" than the 18" Thanks again for the feedback.

Wow. Our 99 C230k's are now considered "vintage" that track day?! Kind of sad.

Which chip tuner did you go with?

Post some pics of your modified C for us all to see

I have been collecting some contacts for w202 owners in the Atlanta area. If things slow down enough for me to get some time, I was thinking about trying to organize a w202 get together for Atlanta area w202 owners when it warms up a bit.

VCDA opened the event up to PCA members who are rated solo at Road Atlanta so that they would have enough cars to pay for the event. I tagged along with that group.

I used Inmotion Tuning out of Oregon and had great results. Hp boosted from 193 to 232. Torque went from 200-232. As soon as I figure how to do this, I'll post some pictures.

I'm active with Peachtree MBCA. Whenever you want to get w202 together, I'll put out the word.

Is that chip only or did you do the pulley upgrade from ASP or Kleeman at the same time to spin the supercharger faster? That is quite a gain just for the chip!

That's from re-flashing the ECU, haven't done the pulley upgrade yet. Also, the stats are from Inmotion (inmotionusa.com). I haven't verified this on a dyno.

That's a nice increase. Do you plan to run it on a dyno? Do you have any other mods?

Besides re-flashing the ECU, the car has been lowered 1.3" using H&R sport springs, stock torsion bars were replaced with H&R torsion bars, shocks are Koni adjustable shocks. Front upper and lower bushings and rear bushings were replaced with camber, caster and toe kits from K-MAC. I can get more negative camber on the rear than stock allows under live load. On the track I run Hoosiers on Oz 18" wheels. This required a minor amount of fender flaring. We're about ready to turn 200,000 on the odometer. This is my fourth year of tracking the car-24 track days-2800 miles of hot laps and it has been absolutely solid.

No real plans to dyno, I get enough pleasure running up the axx-end of a 944 in the twisties at Road Atlanta !

Once I figure out how to do it, I'll post some pictures.

If you follow this link, you'll find some pictures as well as some other projects we've completed. Pictures are from about 18 months ago at Road Atlanta.

Good article, John:

http://rsmotorwerks.com/Star_May-June_p58-61.pdf

I haven't seen too many people try to make a c230k into a viable track car, so it was interesting to hear your results. Lots of people over at club202.com have put some of those same bits on their cars but very few have done real track time with them.
