Like I said, I believe they're identical except for suspension and options.

Info on past models available

Information on past MB models is available at www.mbusa.com. Click on Starmark Pre Owned then Model Overview.

1997 was the first year for the W202 to have the 5-speed electonic controlled transmission. Posts to the Tech section reccomend using the MB synthetic ATF.

The sport option for the C-280 is as follows:

C6 C280 Sport Package Firmer stabilizer bars and shocks. Faster steering ratio. Performance 205/60 R15 tire. Aluminum alloy wheels. Sport emblems. Monochromatic body trim. Sport front seats. Sport-design interior trim. Leather upholstery (grey or black). Leather-trimmed sport steering wheel and sport gearshift knob.

In 1997 there was also a C-320 Sport Sedan

Hopefully the parts guy asked you what model you had and sold you the correct fluid. Mobil 1 Synthetic runs about $6 a quart and I believe I have read people mention the MB ATF for this transmission runs about $8 a quart. I could be completely off-base but this may guide you if you have your receipt or remember how much you payed.

I am also talking about US models. Your ID dosn't indicate if you live in the US. If you have an MB made for another market, this information may not be correct.

Whoa, are you sure? There's not one on MBUSA, and I never heard of it... so maybe it's really rare?

You are correct it is the C36 Sport Sedan

Sorry, it was a C36 Sport Sedan.

I was in a hurry to go pick up dinner and I didn't double check. Sorry for the confusion.

Trying to give you a link that works:

http://www.mbusa.com/brand/container...45678&menu=4_0

Thanks for the help with the wheels in the other forum.

How many miles did you have on your transmission?

I don't have any experience replacing transmssions with new vs. used to give you a reccomendation.

My 1984 300D has almost 230,000 miles on it with no transmission problems. I had a 1984 300TD that had over 200,000 miles with no transmission problems. My only transmission problems were with a 1983 240D which I had to change the clutch disk twice over 200,000+ miles.

I change the fluid and filter religiously every 30,000 miles.

Knock on wood, my W202 hasn't given me any transmission problems.

1999 C280 Sport
I paid $13.50 per litre times 8 litre for AT transmission fluid (dealer part #: 001-989-21-03-10) for my 1999 C280 Sport. Also had to buy the dealer dipstick $40 & AT filter & pan gasket ($15 or something like that from www.importec.com). Didn't get around to changing AT fluid this weekend but will next weekend for SURE!

Need to drain in 2 places, at the pan level and torque converter level.

Here's another of my recent posting on questions about AT fluid change.

https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...threadid=38777

Good luck.
