rear bose sub issues

recently, ive noticed that the rear speakers have been causing a rattling noise when playing at lower frequencies for bass notes. ive narrowed it down to the rear passenger-side one. i took off the speaker cover and looked for any signs of trouble. i took a look at the sub to make sure it wasnt blown and looking from above, it seemed alright. then, i tried pushing and pulling on various objects in the vicinity of the sub, from above the rear shelf and through the trunk, to make sure nothing of that sort was causing the rattling; nope, nothing like that. any suggestions?

Had the same problem in my 95 and I pion pointed it to the rear passenger side of the ca in the trunk. Shoved some paper towels between the metal plate and the shelf and it solved it.

metal plate? all ive been seeing is the plastic grill while looking up through the trunk on the bottom of the speaker. can you explain where the metal plate is?

OK, well, mine's a 95 so maybe they did away with that after 97. In my car there's a metal plate that runs the entire self (in the trunk looking up) and the speaker is mounted in between it and the shelf. That's where I pin pointed my rattle.
