pioneer deh-p6500 questions

wassup guys, i've been out for a week. just changed jobs for the better. anyways back to cars. i just saw an ad from best buy where they sell the pioneer deh-p6500 for $159 plus free basic install. which mean they'll prolly want you to get the kit, adapter, euro attenna adapter, etc. still sounds like a good deal now that i have some cash from the wheels i sold.

question is, has anyone had there decks installed there before and do they do a good job.

I haven't heard anything about their installs, but on a related note, I have heard somethings about Circuit City. A friend of mine took his car their, (can't remember what it was) to get a deck installed. Long story short, he got it back with his dash cut up around the opening, none of the faders/balance controls worked properly, and to top it off, it looked like they couldn't figure out how to secure the deck in the car so they HOT-GLUED it in. Yes, hot-glue. And then the manger wouldn't do anything about it. So dont ever go there. The End.

ive heard a lot of bad things from those electronic superstores like Best Buy and Circuit City. my suggestion would be to take it to a reputable car audio store that has a guy that specializes in german cars and/or benzes. my cousin took his 530i to a local Tweeter store for a sub install and the guy did a really good, seamless job. plus, everything integrated with the digital sound system really well.

I would definitely be verrrry wary of taking my car to one of those electronic superstores. I knew a guy that installed stereos at Best Buy, and while I dont know a ton about car audio, I know a great deal more than he does. Yet he's the one hacking open people's dashes for Best Buy...

I use to work for BestBuy

I had my deck, the Pioneer DEH-6400 installed there and I sorta knew the guy in the install bay so that may have made a difference in the job done, lol.

Anyways, it really depends if you get lucky or not, some dudes know what their doing and others don't.

Yes, free basic install, but you still need the dash kit, antenna adapter, wiring harness...run you about $50-60 I think, can't remember because employee's get a crap load off parts and install, hehe

Really though, it's not that hard to do the install. It can be a DIY, pending you don't have the Bose system in the car.

If you want more help, let me know and I'll try to explain it to ya

BTW, I acutally saw that add too and wanted to get that one, lol. I spent more on my deck ($200 with employee discount) and doesn't have the MP3 capability

BOSE system has 9 speakers (2 dash, 2 front doors, 2 rear doors, 3 rear shelf) plus an amp in the left side of the trunk (behind the carpet to drice them), non-bose just had 4 speakers powered by the HU.... in 94-95 (like the one I got) there was no prominent BOSE insignia on the back shelf like in 96+ cars, so you have to look at the speaker labels to make sure.... plus having the big bose amp is a dead giveaway...

seriously, it's pretty easy to do yourself. All you have to do a adapt the factory harness into the VW/Audi harness, connect the antenna adapter into the stock one, put in the dash kit and voila. All set, now just plug and play.

bestBuy is insured, so if anything does go wrong, your covered for repairs and stuff. It really depends on the guy doing the install, I know some tech's won't touch MB's cuz they're more difficult to work on and/or liability cuz if they break something, it's gonna be expensive to repair, most likely.

If he's worked on MB's before, he should know what he's doing.

Good luck!

i'm very satisfied. best buy installed the deck and replaced the cassette holder in under 30 min, and i was kickin it with them the whole time. the deck really improved the sound in my car, i'm not bumpin or anything but it's just so much better. i'll prolly wait a few months before replacing some speakers and adding my amp and sub. thanks guys for all your help again.
