Air bag suspension anyone??
i was wondering if anyone has done or thought about bagging a w202? it looks easy enough. pop the spring out then bolt in a bag. it looks like there is enough clearance so the bag doesn't rub anything. anyone got any suggestions or pros and cons?

i would do it if i found a reliable shop that knew what they were doing. A lot of shops in So. Cal do it and they tell me it puts a lot of stress on your suspension, thus making it vulnerable to break.

airbag suspension is not at all alien to mercedes, at it had widely used an airbag self leveling suspension setup in the past, mostly on the back of old 70's and early 80's S-class sedans (cooled by alcohol I believe), and w123 wagons... Most owners converted to regular springs and gas schocks once they went bad, and I've seen what happens when the suspension collapses, not a pretty sight...
as far as your application is conserned, it can probably be done, depends on how much you're willing to spend... if you want it done for mixed racing/street use, an adjustable coilover kit would be more appropriate...

a car that can't do the throttle reset.
the self leveling is completely different from bags. slef leveling is extremely subtle, bags are who drops and lifts in a second or seconds(depending on which kit you get).plus with a real bag set you replace everything...shocks, springs...etc.

my friend has a 1980 50SEL with factory adjustable 2 axle airbag suspension (gray market import from germany)... the ride height difference between the settings was anything but subtle....

In the market
It can be done, it is not all that hard to do, and when done right is very reliable. I have had air bag suspesnsions on all kinda of vehicles...I wouldn't do it to my benz though...just seems kinda ghetto for a car of that stature.

if anyone has any pics of a w202 with bags could you leave a link. any pics would be cool but if anyone has any construction pics of the suspension thats would be nice. and bags aren't as unreliable as everyone is saying on this forum. my other car has air cyliders which are worst than bags and i have put over 20 thousand miles on them. if you do it right it's not a bad setup. and the *****es love front back side to side, and some sparks here and there. thanks
