I had a creaking noise that I thought came from the suspension or engine mounts, BTW I have a '95 C220 w/50k mi. The dealer said it was the door but check the suspension and engine mounts also. They did and the noises continued. Back to the dealer, same story. Third time to the dealer and now is worse.
Under normal driving is ok, it creaks when going over speedbumps or rough streets.
Anyone experienced something like this? If I could be guided on what to do to improve this...

Well I finally found time to check my suspension, and yes it is the suspension making creaking noises. I believe the bushings in the front arms are causing my problem. I just wonder why the dumb@$$es at the dealer could not find anything. Well I will have it fixed and report on it.

Just another example of poor quality control. These sites have good information on how sloppy MB is getting regarding this.

well i have the same noises ... mostly from the front engine compartment, but mine makes the noise only after driving for 30kms or so, then wen i brake to a stop i will make the noise, at first i thought it was the brakes, but then wen i release the brakes and brake again, it wont make it anymore, but i gas it and the noises reappear. Also wen im stopped and i turn the steering wheel it makes the same noise, its pissing me off. I thought MB was suppose to be reliable!

I'd hardly call a 'noise' of THIS nature an issue of reliability. But, since all this talk came about, I did notice that I have a whistle/creek coming from the rear when I exit the car. Most likely a strut/shock problem unless it's a bushing or something of the type.

Popping in the front, I've noticed something sort of like that myself. I only notice it when turning very very sharply though. It's almost like the tire loose grip or something. The PS whine though, I don't know what to think. I've flushed the fluid, made sure there were no leaks, had the alignment done. I don't know what to do for it, really.

I had a popping noise in the front suspension, which usually occurred when turning sharply and/or on acceleration.
Over time it got worse, and the car tended to be very loose on the hwy, not tight; it took more concentration to drive in my lane.
Well it turned out to be the lower control arm bushings. $450 total @ the dealer fixed the problem right up.![Wink](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
BTW, this happened at 100k miles on my C280.
Good luck!

David,
When you say that it was more difficult to drive on the highway. Are you talking about wind sheer moving you around, or just finding that the car is all over the place for some reason? I've sort of noticed the same thing. It's one of those problems that get's worse over time until you say..'there is no way I bought a car that was doing this from the get go.'
Maybe I'll replace them just for grins at 85k. Is there a visual inspection that can be done to aid in this decision?
Matt

Hmm, not sure how to go about a visual inspection... sorry.
But yes, exactly what you describe; it's not like wind sheer, just more squirrely. It takes more attention to keep it in a lane... just doesn't feel as tight.
When I got my car back after the repair.. it was like night and day! What a difference!
Good luck... an independent mechanic would probably be a bit cheaper.

I mean, it's no biggie, the part is like 10 bucks from the people I do business with and I agree an independant German Autowerks place would be cheaper than the dealer.
I guess I'll do it just because I'm noticing some of the same symptoms. Thanks for all your help on the forum lately. It's nice to see people posting!
