Turned 77K the other day. Got the same year, color, and model you do ABsC280. What's the upshift delay valve?

The upshift delay valve is what keeps the first two gears held longer when you first drive off. It warms up the CAT's faster for more efficient emissions. After the temps are warm enough, it'll shift normal again (IE, lower RPM's).

On a second note, w202 owners who check this out, do you notice that no matter if the car is warmed already after driving for a while, the first two gears still hold a little longer after you start going again (like get some things from the store and leave) just like when you first drive on a cold start? I know on later MB models, after the car is already warmed up, it will shift normally even after you shut if off and start going again.
