Lowering by pad/shim removal?
#2
You should not TOTALLY remove them.
Depending on what you have right now, the most you can lower ( from the thickest, to the thinnest shims ), is about 1/2 inch.
A LOT OF WORK, just to drop 1/2 inch.

If you're going to pay someone to switch to a lower shim pad, you might as well get springs as well. Labor to take out the spring is a lot. You can buy springs for around $200-50, it wouldnt make sense to just swap the shims, waste of money imho.

This being the case, can anyone recommend a spring set up that will lower the car about an inch, still use the stock shocks/struts? and maintain ride comfort.

I think the eibach are the ones lowering the least.
my C230k had #3 pads in front, I went with #1 for a little adjustement on the ride height. Pads are for adjustement, not lowering.
Maybe go eibach with the #5 pads (thickest) so your drop will be not too much.

they firm up the ride a bit, but maintain a solid ride.

Thanks very much, I dont want to change the ride to much. Don't like to bounce any more. But this car is way up in the air with the stock springs. Car only has 32,000 miles, low for a '00 model I guess. I will check them out.

Get Eibach pro-kit or H&R (H&R is lower). The car will not bounce
That only happens if #1 you cut your springs, #2 your shocks are blown. You will need to change your shocks as well. Stock shocks at stock ride height are pretty much blown at around 40-50K miles. You can lower you car on stock shocks for the time being, but they will need to be swaped out sooner or later. I am currently running Eibach springs with bilstein sport shocks. Handles much better and has no more fender gap. Ride quality is not sacraficed much either.

Got it, the Pro-kit will give me the lowering 1 maybe 1+". Do the pads come with the kit or do they have to be ordered? If so, from where?
