Interesting Problem - 2005 C-CLass SS

Hey All,

Has anyone had this problem? I started my car this morning and the computer informed me that I needed service A in 26 days. The thing is that I've had the car for 8 months and it only has 2,900 miles on it. From what I understand service A (for 2005 models with the new maintenance system) should be performed at 10,000 miles or 1 year whichever comes first. Also at the same time this happened, no sound is coming from the radio/CD player. I have a call into the dealership, but I was wondering if any members have had something similar?

Thanks,
Leif W.

Partial Follow Up to my own post.
I thought I'd post a partial follow up to my "problem". I spoke to my Mercedes service rep. about the service A situation. It turns out the service interval starts from the production day. So even though I picked up the car in the beginning of July, the service interval started from the production day of March 30th. I assumed the interval started from when I purchased the car. So as far as the service interval goes, there is no problem.

Here's what happened to you car:

I'm taking a wild guess that it was not a custom order (show room car)?

The computer is set during build, if the car sits around for a while before it is sold then that message will pop-up early. Go to your dealer and have them reset it.

EDIT: ops, didn't read your 2nd message.

why have them reset it. it must be 10,000 or 1yr, which ever comes first for a reason.

<<I'm taking a wild guess that it was not a custom order (show room car)?>>

Yup. I bought one off the lot.

I'm just going to get the service done. Hopefully the radio problem won't be a big deal. I'm also going to ask them to fix the rattling trunk realease button. Does anyone know if they have to take the whole door apart to fix the button? If so, I'm tempted to leave it alone. I currently have a small piece of black electrical tape on it and it doesn't rattle. I'm concerned that if they take the door panels off to fix the button, that some new rattles might be introduced.

if they have to replace the siwtches which contain the trunk release button then the panel will have to come off. its no big deal. it goes back on and youll never know it was removed.

House of Imports in Buena Park, California gets $219.95 +tax and hazardous waste fees for service A. Mobil 1 synthetic oil included.

Those of you who do your own oil changes might get a MADD (mothers against drunk driving) calendar from PEP BOYS. You donate a buck for the calendar. Inside is a buy 3, get three free coupon for Mobil 1! I never see this stuff on sale anywhere, so I bought ten calendars!

I had the same thing happen to my car, a few month after i got it it requested for a service, dun remember which one it was. So i took it to the dealership and they did a few things like oil and stuff, and it cost me nothing... but that was back then before they took away the warranties. And at nearly 10k miles i had the other service performed.

the audio thing is a known problem on the 2005's. do you have the h/k system too? I've had that issue and it was fixed with a firmware upgrade (to the amp or car, I have no clue what they updated, but it's fixed now!).

I'll look for my thread containing it...

Yes, I have the HK. It's weird, in the afternoon the radio started working properly again.

Someone in another post asked about the cost of service A. I was given a price quote of approx. $175 for service A. Since I bought the car at the dealership, I was told that they pick up the cost of the oil change which reduces the price to $150. Don't hold me to these numbers however because the service rep said she wasn't sure if the prices were raised for the 2005 model. I'm getting the service done at the end of this month. I'll post the exact cost after I get it done.

what gets done for service A? $200 seems like alot to spend on a 1 year old or 10k mile car. i'd would've thought just an oil change would be in need

That's correct. The oil should not be sitting in the engine for so long. The service indicator is not malfunctioning in this case.

$25 = oil change = stealership paying = free to you. Are you sure your service rep works for MB?

Did you ever find (or look for) your thread containing the info above? I'm searching and can't find it. (this is the one post I found that maybe is the same one you're referring to: https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...release+rattle)

I tracked down the rattle in my H/K equipped car to the trunk release (on the driver side door) as well. So I'm interested in knowing how this was fixed.

(I also have the Service A in 30 days message up---took delivery Nov. 2).

EDIT: Thanks nlpamg; I found the threads by looking for all your posts
