Audio 10 update

Just found out this morning that the Audio 10 CD plays mutisession CDs - no other CD player that I tried this CD-R with could do that. Nice.

Does "mutisession"= CD-RW? If not, what is "mutisession"?

no, it's CD-R. If you burn your own, you can use many options, muti-session is one of them. It's a like incremental back up - you write several tracks (songs) at once, then create a new session, write some more tracks, etc.
It's pretty much useless for most CD players, as they only see and play the 1-st session. This one, however, plays all of them.

The audio 10 saga continues for me. I got my audio 10 and it sounded great, much better than the cassette radio but the CD player was jammed, so I sent it in 2 day Priority Mail to Becker to be fixed 10 days ago and they still haven't got it and the post office lost track of it somewhere. So I bid on another one and that should get here in 2 weeks. The dollar is taking a big dive and now I have to pay more for Euros.

Eventually the post office will find it and Becker will fix it. If they do and my new Audio 10 works fine, does anyone want to buy an Audio 10 CD with a 90 day warranttee from Becker?

I'll know in two weeks when I get the new one and see if that works. I may need the one I sent to Becker! From what I've heard on the forum, you have a 50/50 chance on getting a good one. If I have them both tested and they work I will sell one for $350. It's about $75 more than what you can get on german e-bay (after exchange rate, wire transfer fee and shipping) but it would be good for someone that doesn't want the risk and long wait and wants a warranttee with the radio. Even at that price I'm going to lose money. I'm hopeful that I'll have it by the BBQ in San Diego for those that want to hear what it sounds like. A lot more bass from the stock speakers and the station call letters display is cool.

For those interested, there's one coming up on E-bay at

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=1738116579

It's only $163 dollars with 7 hours to go. You have a good chance because most Germans are asleep during the next 7 hours.

That seller has ZERO feedback and will ship to Germany only. 2 strikes.

I know, most German's don't want the hassle of dealing even in a neighboring country with the same currency let alone American's that don't speak english or have the same currency. It took almost a week to wire money to Germany last time using Citibank and Citibank is in Germany. Arghhh! Once you order it it takes two weeks unless you want to pay for UPS and they wanted $82 for shipping, insane when the post office is $22. the post office is 10-14 days if it doesn't get hung up in customs. I had to bribe the guy and pay him $25 over the bid amount for him to ship it to the U.S. Also I noticed most Germans want you to pay the E-Bay fees. Then you go through all the hoops and it broke in shipping. Also they opened it at customs and didn't seal it back up very well.

I wouldn't have tried again but once you hear it, you can't go back to Alpine POS. The bass without Bose is much better than the stock radio with Bose.

With the current exchange rate it will cost about $228 (no matter what ebay says the exchange rate, it's wrong), the shipping is was 28,44 Euros using the post office and C2IT charges $15. Some make you pay the E-Bay fee which is minor.

Also make sure it's the Audio 10 CD for the new C-Class and not the one for other MBs that's square. Here's a pic as a reference. If it works you won't regret it, it sounds great.

Why won't the dealer replace it under warrranttee? I'm on the second radio.

I've never had good luck with aftermarket radios. You listen to them at the Circuit ****ty and they sound great, put them in my car and they sound like crap. At least now you can get the correct bezel.

This is from another post on a cd changer install that I changed a little. It takes about 30 minutes the first time when you don't know what you are doing. Also there's some pics at http://www.stormpages.com/arialis/mb/changer/radio.html with the MB instructions. You can do it. It's easier than changing the headlight bulbs. If you want I'm sure the dealer will do it for you in 20 minutes for 90 minutes labor charge.

--------------

You'll need a #20 torx bit screwdriver and a long small bladed flat blade screwdriver. DON'T unplug the battery. Open the ashtray about halfway and shine a light (small flashlight) along the gap along the top of the ashtray door. You'll see 1 silver clip on each side holding the bottom of the center console cover in place. The clips are hinged in front and should be pulled down at their rear attachment point. Use the long thin flat bladed screwdriver for this. Now go up to the center air vents. Along the middle/left of each vent you'll see two small plastic pieces, one above the other separated by a vent slot or two. Rotate both vents so they point as high as possible. Use the thin screwdriver to carefully push the upper thin plastic clip to the right. This will allow the vent to rotate another 1/2" or so, creating a 1/4" gap along its bottom. Repeat on the other vent. Shine a light in the gap and you'll see a single torx bit screw on each bottom corner of the vent housing. Remove these (close the air vent with the thumbwheels to keep the screws from disappearing forever!). Now rotate the vents down. You'll need to push the lower plastic pins to the right to allow the vent to continue rotating down again creating a gap along the top of the vent and vent housing. There are two black plastic clips along the top corner of each side of the vent housing. You should pry down on each clip while pulling the vent housing out. You may have to go back and forth between each side as the clips have lots of "teeth" that will get hung up on the clip's attachment point. Once the vent is removed, the center console cover should come right off. You can unplug the wires going to the buttons on the console if you choose. I only unplugged a single connector along the top of mine which allowed me to twist the console cover and lay it flat on its face over the lower console. Remove two torx bit screws holding the radio/storage bin in place. Pull out the radio. The low storage bin will probably fall off. It will only stay in place with the radio installed. Unplug the old radio and plug in the new.

C- 230 Kompressor,C2,C7,Black,JL sub,A/D/S/ amps,Alpine hu and changer
had the same one Tnat had installed Alpine 7995, it looks very nice, and sounds so much better, used 2 amps and had a sub built for the back.I first had the installer hook up a amp to the factory hu, it worked great except he only had one line level converter left, so I had no fader control, when they put the other one in a week later I dont know what happened, but they shorted somthing out in the hu, and offered to give me a new Mercedes one, or replace with the Alpine of my choice plus a Alpine cd changer I think I made the right choice, the Alpine hu blows the Mercedes one away with the same amp and speakers.

The factory radio is just that bad. The audio 10 sounds like a normal stereo should.

well, i bought the audio 10 i was talking about. 250 euros for the whole thing + wire transfer fee. not bad, especially from a guy who ships internationally without question and who has a +309 feedback rating.

i'll post updates as it gets here, and pics of my install.

250 EUR is good considering you paid 235 EUR for the radio and shipping is going to be at least 25 euros. Let us know what the final price is you are charged by C2IT in US dollars including their fee. I bet it close to the $275 as I mentioned before.

267.78 is the total price -- not bad for a stereo that sells for $600 new.

I have received my Audio 10 radio last week from Germany, looks very nice but I haven't installed yet since I will only be receiving my 2003 C240 in mid July, I have noticed there is no Mercedes logo on it and was wondering why, is there a way to add one it.l

Why would you want to do that? You'll ruin the reliability!

Hmm, that's strange, Mine came in mercedes box, with the logo. Maybe that's why the dealer installed it for free....

I am talking about the one in the front, obviously it has a factory serial number and logo on the top. I didn't receive the original box but the manual came with it.
