Dead Pedal Picture
Here's the Dead Pedal for my C320. It's made from scraps from the McNeal Mats, hot glued to a piece of cheap floor mat from Wal-Mart...

I did this before we learned of the Evolution Floor mats. I'm not sure the Evolution mats come in Java, and I'm further not sure why the Evolutions don't come on the car as standard equipment, instead of the standard floor mats which do not have a dead pedal strip. For that matter, I don't know why MB doesn't have a proper Dead Pedal that doesn't require a Rube Goldberg solution!

The all weather mats in my car surely covers the dead pedal. The are made of black rubber and has the MB-star on them + the clips to nail it to the floor on the drivers side. Don't know if these mats are some special item for swedish cars, but they are made in Sweden anyway. Mabye you can order them thru a european (swedish?) dealer??? I'll try to post pics soon.

1) Do not require any drilling for attachment
2) Do not have any sharp edges that will cut the existing carpeting
3) Is removable to assist vacuuming the carpet behind the pedal
4) Will not cost more than $40-$50
Geez, some of you guys are kinda harsh. Anytihng is better than resting your muddy shoes on the carpeting, right?

OT: how are the macneil weathertech mats? i had them in my honda civic and loved them, although they didn't fit quite right and i never felt like cutting them up. how do the benz ones fit? actually, do any coupe owners have experience with these?
i got the MB all-season mats, but they're really thin and just aren't the same calibre as the weathertech ones.

Avlis, I will make a 1:1 size template of your design and play with it. How are you attaching it to the floorboard?

Evo mats would need to have a dead pedal area at least 50% longer to cover the entire area exposed to dirty shoe soles
How are you attaching it to the floorboard?
I'm sure I could move it around with my foot if I tried, but it stays put with normal driving (remember I have the manny trans and my foot dances between the clutch and dead-pedal often).
I was thinking about getting one made from sheet metal eventually.

You can get that plastic runner sheeting from Home Depot for $1.99/yard and cover your entire floor! Now that is protection.
That is what my 80 year old grandfather does in all of this Cadillacs!

FrankW, LOL, I just noticed you have a '96 Dodge Caravan. So do I, and I agree, they are AMPOS in the extreme. Replaced the tranny at 68K, A/C just went out (73K). Time to go shopping, again...

at 28k miles the timing belt tensioner broke off as in fell out of the car., luckly my mom was just starting the car. our tranny went out at 40k something miles had it fixed twice. at 48k something the coolant pump went dead and cause the engine to overheat and damage the piston rings. now at 68k we still can't get the engine stop problem fixed. that happens when we were coasting on the fwy and when we were exiting the fwy as the rpm comes down the engine just stoped.
oh yeah...our driver side door panel is f**ked up, we can pull the whole thing off if we pull the door to hard to close it.
my dad is keeping it to move all the crap that we don't want to put in our ML.
