i bought it. i bought it about 3 months after i took delivery. i contemplated getting it and finally did. you have the first 12 months to decide, or atleast thats the way it was in 2003.
7yr/100k extended warranty. paid $2350 for it.

I bought extended warranty for $1,500.00. 2 extra years plus up to 100,000 miles. careful on the ext warranty though, there was a thread that discussed this earlier, extended warranty kicks in when your regular warranty runs out. so it's more accurate to say 2 years extended up to 100,000 miles , rather than 6 years 100,000 miles of warranty, because your warranty can expire a lot sooner than 6 years if you drive alot.

Wish I had gotten it added into my financing seeing that this car seems to have a lot of knick-knack problems.
Other than that, from what I understand, the extra 2yr / 50,000 miles that is placed on top of the standard 5 year/50,000 doesn't cover maintenance, since it is a "limited" extended warranty, you still have to pay for oil changes for every 10,000 miles above, any part replacement that they would consider a "wear and tear" problem.
Then again, I've only heard from what my parents are experiencing with the E Class I got them in 2002. Well, too late for me know. I'm already past the 1 year mark.

Right, so if you drive 50,000 miles in the first year, your regular warranty expires, and your extended kicks in. So now your warranty is only 3 years or 100,000 miles (in the case of a 2 year/100K warranty), whichever comes first. You don't have 6 years to drive to 100,000 miles. You have 4 years to drive to 50,000 miles, and 2 years to drive from 50,000 to 100,000 miles. kind of sucks in my opinion, since when i bought my warranty, i was under the impression that i would have 6 years/100K miles. Then i read the forum, and then read the warranty details that they send you 3 months after you buy the car.....damn.

I purchased a 3yr/100,000mile extended warranty from Courtesy Motors in California for ~$1,690.00 whereas my local dealer wanted $2,700.00 (yes, you can buy it from any MB dealer since it's MB who gives you the warranty NOT the dealer).
I was not so lucky with my wife's 2001 BMW 528i for which I did not buy an extended warranty. Three months after the warranty expired, the ABS computer crapped out... $1,420.00 for the computer and $295.00 labor, fluids, etc., etc.
Bottom line: If you're going to keep the car then the question is do you want to pay now or later? I learned my lesson with the BMW which by the way only has 26,000 miles.

remember that you can haggle on the price of extended warranty too. Don't bite at the first offer

If you plan on keeping the car, get the extended warranty.
You get up to a year to decide.
I got mine on day 363 from the dealer in Chico, CA.
They were willing to negotiate a little.
Gave 'em a credit card number, faxed a document.
Done.
Doesn't matter where you buy it...
works the same anywhere.
Mine already paid for itself.

Extended warranty
Here I am at 33K miles and the car is almost four years old. I bought the extended FACTORY warranty at the end of the first year which doubles it. Four more years or 100K miles. I paid $2300 because I know damned well that the niggling problems will continue and will certainly cost far more than what I paid for the warranty.
OK, fine, it doesn't pay for service items and oil changes. That's pocket change compared to the replacement of a key no-go electronic unit or god forbid, the transmission for example. After the four year point (4/25/05) I will go back to changing my own oil and filters, brake pads, shocks, anti-freeze and such and it won't affect my warranty to do so.
My '01 C320 is my sixth MB. The last four were purchased new and the W203 has had far fewer warranty claim dealer visits than any of them. And, my middle name is "picky."

I didnt get the factory one so I might consider getting a reputable aftermarket one. Im not sure thought. Im not so keen on extended warranties usually because alot of electrical stuff(Which is the main weak point that should be covered, like the COMAND) isnt covered and there is a nice deductable for all other stuff. IMO unless you get some engine or tranny problems then it seems like a waste. Maybe it would be good for burnt bulbs and rattles!
