That's terrible! I hope you didn't get into an accident. It can be quite scary when you're on the road and the car just falls apart on you.

That's not very nice. Goodness, people, let's show how proper us Mercedes-Benz car forum people are. We drive nice cars, hopefully we're nice people.

Personally, call me stubborn, but I still like the C more than the TL. My main priority when buying a car isn't power, it's handling. I guess it depends on what your priorities are.

I liked the IS 350 though. I wouldn't mind to have one of those. Wouldn't mind at all.

Some people, as you may understand, especially since you live in the city (the person I'm quoting lives in San Francisco), like to have smaller cars for their own personal reasons. Many C230 owners are very young (I'm probably one of those particularly young ones).

Think of it this way. Think of it like buying a Montblanc pen (this is too complicated so I'm going to go to a wristwatch). Think of it as buying a wristwatch, my favourite wristwatch company is Jaeger LeCoultre and Patek. A C Class can be a Patek wristwatch, but it's just a stainless steel version, when your S Class, that's the solid gold version. Still, the inner workings are similiar, it's just what do you want or need.

I hope that's an understandable analogy.

As the youngest in the family, nobody drives my C230 for fear of embarassment since they're older and think they need at least an E to escape criticism. While this may be somewhat true, that doesn't mean the C230 is any less of a car.

Lastly, as a C Class owner, I don't think that my car is the best in the world. But, for the money, I think it is, and that's probably why I got it. Naturally, I considered Japanese cars prior to my acquisition. And when some people comment upon these cars (sometimes commenting can be interpreted as bashing) they are trying to say why they didn't buy that car and they bought this car. Or why they think this one or the other is better.
Man you got it exactly right. I've always liked smaller cars......they're hella easier to park!!! I like my cars to "fit" me like a glove sorta speak. I don't want to feel like I'm in a gigantic car, and I'm being dwarfed by the car!

But don't get me wrong, there's small, and there's SMALL. I def don't want a Mini Cooper or BMW 1-Series. That's just hatchback small and TOO small for me.

The perfect sized car would be a 997TT for me.

I agree, not into something the Mini Cooper size either.

For me, I will probably stay in the Compact to Mid-size car variants. Full sized cars are very big.

Secretly, I sometimes chuckle when I see the multitudes of S500s here. Most people don't know this, but the S500 that is available in the US is the long wheelbase version. That is seriously intended for chauffeur usage. So, whenever I see an owner driving their own S500, I always joke that they must've sacked (fired) their chauffeur.

Unfortunately, it isn't easy to get the short wheel base version of the S500 anymore. And the only short wheelbase version would be the S350 which might be a bit underpowered.

A 911 Turbo is a little small. Personally, I like the Maserati coupe. It's able to seat 4, it has a trunk, it's usable. That's my personal take. I'm a big Ferrari/Maserati fan.

2006 C230
I went out and bought a second 2006 C230 last night and that was after giving the TL a second chance. They are both nice cars however there is a reason you get all those features in the TL for the same price as a C230, it's because the quality is less. Also the handling, ride quality, braking and so on is not as good on the TL. Taking it one step further, you get better service from the mercedes dealerships than you do from Acura dealers. I gave the acura 2 chances and I passed on it both time. It comes down to personal choice, I can see past all the little gadgets they put on the TL to try and make the car seem better than it is.

Wow..second one...nice!

Is the TL cost the same as a 06 C230K? I though TL is a few K's more expansive..?

C230 Sport Coup + 2006 W164 ML350 + 99 Ford Escort RIP
I never understood why people took to the Mini so much more easily than
a Supercharged benz with more power for LESS money.

Ha, you guys crack me up. 3 pages of discussion
Acruda vs. Benz...

I passed on Japanese, and chose german instead.
My car has needed many fixes...but
the warranty covered almost everything,
and I always had a very nice car to drive courtesy of the dealer.
It's a shame I had to spend so much time going back and forth to the
dealer. But an Acura? Nah.
At once point I wished I'd bought a G35 coupe.
I drove one...it had lots of power...but not much soul.
Interior was like a Scion TC.
Still lovin' my coupe at 85K miles, and just had a bunch of stuff repaired
for free, stuff I didn't even know the car needed when I took it in for an
oil change. Extended warranty rules. And yeh, I had a 2005 230SS for a week...nice. Free. I doubt Acura does that.

lol.....

I used to have an Accord, and they didn't even GIVE me a loan car. I got a "Free Courtesy Ride" in the dealership's Honda Odyssey.

I wouldn't be surprised if Acura did the same.

A second one? Why two identical cars?

I have to take the courtesy ride. That's because my dealership refuses to give me a rental car because their insurance won't cover someone of my age.

But then, I usually get priority service, since I'm always right there waiting for my car. Had an A service done in two hours. Not complaining here. That's when I left the house and left the dealership.

That's what I wanna know. If I were to have a second car, it would be a weekend fun car, aka 997TT! WOOT!

But you already knew that Patrick. Mwahahaha.

Yea... If I had a second car. I'd get the ACURA TL. Lol, just kidding.

I would consider the IS 250, but that's another story.

If I had a second car for myself, I'd consider some sort of proper sports car. I don't want to break the bank for a 911 997TT. Thus, I'd considered a second hand Maserati coupe, 2004, under 3000 miles, decent colour combo.

That sounds like a lousy excuse on the part of the dealer. You should definitely question the legality of that statement, and my understanding is the loaner car should always be under your own insurance once you sign a loaner contract. Otherwise, you can just completely salvage the car for parts or just ram it into your favorite light pole.

At my dealership where Enterprise takes care of this, we always need to sign a rental contract.

Yeah, I agree. Whenever I'm giving a loan car, they ask me if I want to be insured by them, or use my own insurance. I just usually tell them I'm using my own. Why would they bring age into this issue? You either have insurance or you don't. Age should have nothing to do with it. Idiot dealers.

I've never rented a car in my life so I'm not terribly aware of this.

My dealership also employs Enterprise to take care of it. They say that you have to be 26 years of age.

I'll ask next time I go.

Yes, I definitely have very extensive insurance. And I'm a careful driver, so far no accidents on my car.

I heard somewhere that it is a California law that you have to be aged 26 in order to get a rental car.

Come to think of it. I know some Lexus owners who get the Lexus loaner cars. I know one of them is only 17 years of age. Should've gotten a Lexus. Just kidding...

That's a bit uncalled for.

Many people bring the car in for servicing. Besides, in that particular case, that was a transmission recall.

While I agree with you that Lexus don't need "repaires" (is that a different version of the spelling?), that doesn't mean that they're infallible.

How about;

1974 930 turbo (Must be like new, with hot cams, turbo, & exhaust). White, all trim blacked out, no decals, no badges. No automtic crap, no ESP, no ABS. A car for drivers. Just me, rubber, road, & HP.... and a sH*tty Blaupunt.

Did I offend you somehow? Maybe in a previous post? Maybe in a previous life?

What is going on?

If you're upset about something, just come out and say it. No need for implications here.

No.......

Sorry Pat;

I would like an old fast Porsche for a weekend drive. Wasn't trying to make fun of anyone.

If I had a new Porsche...I would not want to beat it. I want something I can run hard, and not feel bad about it after.

After spending a couple hundred thousand on a new car, who wants to take it to the race track....that is for car magazines to do with factory cars.

Hell, that would be cool as a second car! As long as the third car be a 997TT.

I totally agree. No point in driving your own car terribly hard. Especially if you're planning to keep it.

I wished I had a beater car that I could abuse a bit more. That would definitely be convenient.
