Can Someone Explain this Picture from MBUSA.com???

they show this picture for the c230 coupe with the standard rims. on MBUSA.com now someone has to agree with me that those do not look like 16" rims they look like 17" and look at the low profile tires like the ones similar to the C7 tires? i dont get this at all does anyone else? 16" rims with low profile tires do not look that big.

Don't know about the wheels, but from a "serious" photographer, that is one good picture. The perspective really captures the best angles from front and rear, accentuating the positives.

EDIT: I've got Capri blue on my C240, but it even makes me wish I got silver

it is a very nice picture the silver does look great in it to.
but that picture almost fooled me when i was lookin at the car online before i got it. It made me think that i dont need the C7 package because the wheels look big enough standard. but when i went to the dealer and saw the difference everything changed.

I think the vehicles are modified for these pictures. There is a sideview picture of a C320 in the C Class brochure with about 1" of gap between the front tire and fender, when it actuality it is about 3". The C230 in this picture was probably lowered and had lower profile tires on it (look at the tread pattern on the rear view) to make the wheels look more aggressive than they actually do in real life. Sad

I was going to post on this subject too, you beat me to it by a few hours
Not only do these wheels look 17", but in addition they are either staggered or spaced - just look how flush the rear wheels are to the fender lip. Also, the front tires seem to be of a lower profile that the rears.

Just looked at pictures of some of the others' cars. I think you do have that rear line. But, it isn't raised like the one on the MB photo. Yours probably goes straight across creating a bigger "gap" on the rear bumper.

See Garage
The wheels do appear TOO large for 16s.

After looking at the MB world-wide site it looks like most of the coupes there are sporting that more contoured rear bumper. It was likely a prototypical design that never made it to the production models. The European Evolution AMG appears similar with respect to the countour - although that bumper also appears to incorporate a fake diffuser cutout.

Cheers, BT

I somehow abscounded off with a pre-release Euro brochure from the dealer in addition to the larger book for the USA with the Death Valley pics in it. Iterestingly it has a large side pic, with the car standing absolutely still, and the rear wheel looks OVAL! Makes the rear side look less, uh, bulbous?
Obviously they did little photoshopping on that one. If I have time I'll scan and post a pic.
Another thing is that in the brochure I'm speaking of there are no front side marker lights.
Perhaps the pic on MBUSA is either Photoshopped or
was Euro model (ie lower, aren't all Euro cars lower?) with the side lights added.

i know the answer to that weird picture...lol....

the picture used in the MBUSA website is not the original picture. the original picture show those two coupes in AMG bodykit trim and bigger wheel from the C7 package/Evolution package. if you search around you can find the original picture on the Mercedes-Benz international website. www.mercedes-benz.com

Frank's correct.

Funny, I was just on that web-page and didn't catch it. Good work, boy.

Here's the original pic - left C7/evolution right EvoAMG, including staggered tires:

fun with Photoshop

MBUSA should be careful when it doctors photographs like this.

Digitally inserting "Styling A" double-five spoke wheels, which only come in 16" (though two widths are available in Europe) in place of the Evolution 17 inch wheels not only gives a false impression of the look of the 16s, but could actually fool someone into ordering a car sight unseen. Imagine the fun they'd have explaining on delivery that the image that caused the person to order the car is not representative. 45 series 17s are not even CLOSE to 55 series 16s in appearance.

The other glitch in this botched Photoshop effort, besides the bumper contours and the obviously doctored side marker light, is that they've left the large European license plate aperture in the image, when of course the North American cars come with a much smaller one to suit our ugly "short boy" license plates.

I too have a few of the EU brochures from last year with the original photo in it, so the big lie on the MBUSA website never fooled me...

Thumbs up

Nah Fuzzo I'm guessing they used some sort of super high tech futuristic top secret mercedes wax to get a shine like that. Along with their stealth buffer they keep hidden away in military lock up 364 days of the year. You do have a point though. I'm guessing they're using some pretty high quality wax and no doubt hours of work to get a shine like that (sigh) Too bad we don't get that for free with our maintenance
