Turn Signal won't shut off Am I going crazy?

I went into the dealer for my 1,000-3,000 check and while I was driving home I could not get the turn signal to go off. Then a day later the same thing happened. At first I thought I was just missing the center position, but I just think it goes haywire every once in a while. The only way I can get it to go off is turning the high beams on and off. Has anyone had this happen?

Read your manual! I so know what you are asking and your manual has it in there. It blinks three times and then turns off?????

I've had this happen every so often.. though I'm not sure what kind of "fix" there is for it (I keep forgetting to ask my SA).

The only way I can get it to go off is to keep switching between the up, center, and down position until it stops.

On our old '02 C240, sometimes after you'd make your turn and the blinker should turn off, it would instead start blinking for the opposite side! Crazy! We never figured out what caused that.
I hate the looser feel of the '05 blinker stalk (it sort of flops around) and it's lower mounted position. The pre-'05 blinker stalk had a firmer, more solid feel to it, and it was placed higher up, EXACTLY where my finger naturally fell when I wanted to use it

These are really two different questions. In the future, please post these as separate topics.

I too do not like the turn signal system on the MY 05 MB. I do not like that they will flash three times for a momentary actuation and sometimes when I select a right turn I get the wipers for a few swipes.

I actually LOVE the way they flash 3 times w/ a single touch! I just hate how sloppy the stalk feels!

i'm with you on that one, LOVE the automatic 3 signals it's got me spoiled; whenever i drive a different car i always expect it to work and then realize how much of a convenience it really is

I thought I had read that manual pretty well, but I had to go see what this three click thing was all about. Now I get what was going on. I think once I get used to having that feature, it will become a feature that I am going to like as well.

Thanks!

Hmm.. guess I may be the only one with the turn signal problem then.

From what I remember (since it has only happened to me a few times), what happens is if I try to turn off the signal before the 3 clicks (by putting it in center position), sometimes, the opposite turn signal will start blinking. And because I don't want all the drivers around me to get confused or think I'm crazy for switching my turn signals back and forth, I try to turn it off by pushing it to the center position again. Then what usually happens is the original turn signal will come on again.. which probably makes it seem like I'm playing with my turn signals. Out of frustration, I will usually keep switching it from the up, center, and down positions until it finally stops....

Each time you hit the signal stalk to either signal it will flash three times and can not be turned off! So in effect when you go the other way and then back you just keep telling it to flash three times each way. The tap the stalk and flash three times is so you do not have to hold the lever for a few signals to change lanes. Remember these are German Cars and designed for Autobahn use. At 130+MPH you should not need to hold the stalk for a few flashes to signal a lanbe change. Just tap it once and you are all set.

I love this feature myself but when I switch from my C to my 190 I signal less since I am used to the three blink deal and the 190 does not have it. So my lane changes are a short single flash of the signals and that is it.....

I think the 3 signal to one touch feature is great! I do miss this when I drive any other vehicles.

The down side of the inability to stop the flashing arises when approaching a lane obstructer. If the right signal is activated immediately before the lane obstructer returns to a semi-conscious state and they move to the right lane, then the signal will keep doing its thing, even though the preferred track is now straight ahead.

with only 3 flashes though, i hardly see this as a problem, a lot of times the flashes stop before i'm even done changing lanes
