I'm REALLY PISSED! DO NOT GO TO SOUTHBAY MERCEDES

I took my car in for Service A today (I'll post more about that later), as they pulled it up to the drive for me to take it home, I noticed something...

THEY SCRATCHED (A REALLY REALLY DEEP SCRATCH) THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR. The idiots hit it or something and the side is ruined. They said that they would take care of it, but it looks like the whole panel needs to be repainted.

This is bull****!

I want to post more about this bull****, but I have a letter to write.

Ahhhh that sucks! Sorry to see that happen. Which dealership is this? Yes, make sure that you not only speak to the general manager of that dealship, but write a letter to him and cc: the higher ups. I got one one those customer service surveys with some contact information. Here's some contact information 1-800-367-6372, ext 6399 or via email at cacinternet@mbusa.com There is also this person info: Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC Paul G. Juron General Manager, Customer Assistance Center.
Did they even tell you about it or did you call them on it? Don't let them get away with it!!!

I had to call them on it. They expected me to not see it until I drove off. I'm in the process of writing a very long e-mail. Thanks so much!

thanks for the support guys...

I'm going to raise more hell if it's not done right.

Mick, do you happen to know any of the body shops? I'm hoping that the one they use is one of them (I've read their brochure, and they're certified to fix the CL's, so hopefully it'll be fine).

But, will this hurt my trade-in/resale value? Should I be aware of anything in repainting?

thanks again!

ouch damn dealerships think customer's won't notice (most probably don't )

just thought i'd pass this along...I read somewhere that nano can only be applied at factory as it's baked on under special conditions and any paint work after the fact is not nano. Not sure it's true now as they may have figured out a way to apply nano after factory but just something to think about and ask

Big time. It's one of the standard questions a dealer asks when appraising a trade-in..."any paint or body work?" Even MINOR paint work, if they spot it, will cost you. However, if the blending is done smoothly enough (which it should be) and the paint is applied professionally enough (no orange-peeling) you might be able to get away with it. :v

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I might see if I could get free maintenance for life out of this deal by bringing up this point. Punitive damages, baby!!

Is that a black non-metallic paint? It might be easier to repair correctly if it's not metallic. In fact if it's not metallic, it might not be "nano".

thanks for the info guys... I'm going to see what they do to it on Tuesday.

It is non-metallic black paint, hence my service advisor was trying to tell me it would be easier to do and would match perfectly. But I still have my qualms. I wrote them a really sarcastic and scathing e-mail which hopefully got sent to all the right people.

Yes, have them sign a paper saying they will be responsible for the corrosion warranty on the door panel, the doors are known to rust at the bottom and Mercedes won't warranty it unless its the original factory paint.

And they're gonna have to blend the clearcoat on the othe door/quarter panel, cancelling the Mercedes corrosion warranty on these panels as well.

Update. I brought it in last night, and my SA was really cool about everything. (I have a 2005 C240 loaner, and I don't want to add fuel to the fire or stray too much off topic which I'll probably start another thread, but I don't know which one is "faster".) This morning however, the Director of Service called me trying to say my car had "scratches" and "chips" and essentially tried to imply that I was the one that did it and they were just making a "goodwill" gesture and that I needed to sign a liability waiver. I was livid. I argued with him for 30 minutes straight and essentially caught him on every lie and excuse and refused to sign the waiver. I also told him he should be thankful that I'm not suing. He backed down and said that they will take the utmost care and make sure that it's all up to MB quality and standards and that they will stand behind that panel being painted. Then need to repaint the entire door.

It's their last effort to try and reverse the blame on the owner. Way to stand your ground!!! Keep up the

Before I let them shoot the whole door, I'd let a professional try to spot-repair the scratch. If filled correctly, wet-sanded, and polished, you'll never be able to tell it's there.

If they shoot the door, it's likely that they won't be able to match the orange-peel effect, and possibly not even the depth/color/clarity of the original factory paint.

I've had several cars repainted, and none (repeat: NONE) of the repaints were ever close to the quality of the factory paint.

To be honest, it'll be cheaper for the dealership to have a qualified shop do a spot-repair, and you'll probably be happier in the end. (That is, assuming that they didn't dimple the sheetmetal when they scratched it)

I'm confused. The orange peel effect is a good thing?
Also, when my car was keyed, the dealer and an independent body shop both recommended that it was better to have the whole panel repainted. Maybe the body shop wanted me to go for the more expensive repair, but the dealer (a service advisor) actually backed them up.
