A college buddy of mine, "Z", had an old beige Imperial that was his grandfathers. He nicknamed it "The Veteran". It was the biggest car I've ever seen, and we took it down to Daytona one year for Spring break. Going through Indiana, we must have hit some serious triple digits, because we went over a wavy railroad crossing and were starting to dive forward in the air when we hit the road again. It's a miracle that we weren't killed.

We drove the next 200 miles in total silence.

Oh yeah, I got a brief ride in a Countach once too, but I still think the Imperial could have taken him.

Had a fast ride in a Pantera once..I suppose not THE fastest car, but
it did 0-60 in about 3 seconds while still in 1st gear, or at least it felt like 3 seconds..
the engine was modified for sure.

Or then again, a buddy had a 1970 Torino Cobra with a 428 wedge motor and a shaker scoop.
I suppose compared to todays cars, it wasn't that fast...but the torque..
it would give you wiplash. One time he drove it, and the needle disappeared into the dash as we exceeded 120...when exiting the freeway, he
didn't realize how fast he was going and ended up doing a 360 in the middle of the intersection....
ah...to be 18 again and riding in a muscle car.

Or the Ferrari I rented once....still nothing compared to the newer cars these days, and I have yet to drive any AMG's or any truely fast modern cars.

I like to think my car is fast...he he....

 

The fastest car that I have ever been in is an Audi S4 (B5) car can do 0-60 in 2.5 while spooling before launch.

I road in a caged, sheet metal interior, street legal, nitrous injected small block '70 Corvette once, we just went around the block but even without the juice it would pin you way back in the seat and I started getting tunnel vision. The guy said it wen't 9's on the spray, and I'd believe that.

I've had my SS up to about 118 before, but it was still pulling and I chickened, I was afraid of getting a huge ticket.

I drove the UMD FSAE car that we built a few times. That car went 0-60 in 3.0 seconds and pulled 1.6 g's on the skidpad.

I have to say, fastest for me is our '07 SL550. Don't know quite how fast I've taken it, but that baby is QUICK!!! Although I think it is more impressive to drive our
'08 S550. Almost as quick, only +300 lb. Speed in a big car just feels like thunder. Fun to take a car that big sideways around a corner!

As far as speed, I've taken my C up to the limit at around 134(ish), and got my CLK to 138(ish). Funny, because they're both supposed to be limited at 130.

Almost forgot. Rode in a Maserati Quattroporte. We test drove them while we were looking for a car in '07. Bought the SL instead. Fun car. We went to the dealership in Orlando, which is next to an Infinity dealership. While we were test driving the car, my dad was driving, the salesman from the Infinity place was showing a guy how "fast" and "sporty" the infinity G35 sedan was. As he was showing the buyer trunk space on the side of the road, my dad, coming from all the way down the road, just floors the car and flies by these guys going 100+, with the engine just roaring. The look on the salesman's face was like, OH ****! Next think we know the buyer was at the Maserati dealership trying to get some financing. The other cool thing was that while we were at the dealership, the Ferrari racing team was in the shop there for service. I got to sit in one of the race cars. THAT was cool.

 

Hmmm...fastest is a CLS55 K4. Scared the crap out of me on 400N in Atlanta.

 

an 01 corvette modded . Dont know the specs b/c my rich friend bought it off an enthusiast without knowing the exact upgrades and dyno specs. but it supposedly ran in the 10s w/ spray.

i got a ride it in and it instantly put a smile on my face.. spray of course was never used during my ride.. but it was still pretty efF'n fast.

Same friend recently got a 1970 CHEVELLE with a 454. Not the original SS tho.
Cant wait to ride in that thing. He claims its even faster, or at least feels faster. Ill have to upload a video one of these days.

This thread got me to thinking: I teethed on the dash (literally) of a 1964 Plymouth Barracuda with a 273 V8 and the pushbutton automatic - and factory air (I wish I'd taken that car at 18 when my father wanted to give it to me). That may not have been the fastest, but it sure would be nice now.

Since the, a 1972 Plymouth Grand Fury, with a police option coded 440 4bbl V8 (also dad's) which may actually have been the fastest, but I like to vote for my '85 Mustang GT with a 3.27 rearend and a few (minor) mods that would bury the SVO 140 spedo.

I've also had a '92 190 2.6 (hooked me on MBs) that was quicker than I expected, a 78 Triumph Spitfire that's just cool, and the current C-Coupe and SLK. I guess I have been lucky - and lucky to live through it. I have been trying to remember, but I don't think I have ridden with anything that stands out. Now if anyone with an E63 wants to take me for a ride, even driving like granny around the block.....??

However, in all honesty, the fastest may be an '08 Dodge Charger police package car. They are not that quick off the line, but once you hit about 45mph, it really starts pulling, and keeps pulling until you want to stop.

my friend's 05 M3. HPF tuned, turbocharged, runs on methanol with a second tune. ~750HP on the good stuff. car is stupid fast.

 

Mine... My old 2002 GTI 337.
It topped out (7000 rpms in 6th gear at 159mph) Been there once, but hit 140-145 on a regular basis. What a great car!
