Dropped off my new Coupe at the dealer today...

Took it in for it's first oil change and quirk fix.

I forgot to tell you all about a 'software issue' I had a few weeks ago. One morning, I started my car and immediately got a message on the display to call SOS. According to the woman I spoke to, apparently, my car had an old version of teleaid software that needed updating. I called the dealer immediately to schedule an appointment that day, and took it in on my lunch break. A little over two hours later, the service manager told me they found two loose connectors, and updated the software. They now have another new update(shrug) so they'll install that as well.

Other problems that will be fixed:
*A definite rattle between the passenger door and glove box...at first I thought it was the CD changer or stuff I had stored in there...but it isn't. They'll fix it.
*One morning I noticed a small puddle under that car, near the passenger side front wheel. They'll find it and fix it.

I asked about the computer settings. was told there are 3 modes for fuel settings default, economy and performance...they recommend leaving on default....performance and economy settings lack each other...(ie: perf will get you 18-25 mpg, econ will get you better mileage...but A LOT slower) So, I'lll just have them turn off the AudioPilot feature on the Bose. I also asked if there was a way to change the coolant temp from degrees C to degrees F...he's looking into it.

I got a loaner....a 97 C230 sedan/glacier white/mocha/MBTex/auto/c2...it rides like a truck...but it only has 37k miles.

LOL, Rick. That's a hoot!

Makes me wonder if we sedan guys have three settings, too. The C240 folks might want to know for sure. Anybody with an answer?

Question questions

You mentioned the three setting, but do you know how much better the performance would be in that setting? I am interested to find out so I know if I should have them change it when my car gets here. Is the auidopilot really that annoying? I got the Bose too so just curious.

audio pilot is really annoying to me. i just think it changes the volume too much. in fact, passengers have said the same thing. i've been told that it may be adjustable so i'll first try to have them reduce the change; if not, i'd rather have it off.

i'm going to the dealer tomorrow for this adjustment and i'll try to find out more info about the performance setting too.

I'm very curious about the performance increase in 'performance' mode from 'default'. I mean this would really be the star in a 'cheap upgrades' section of the future FAQ...

Cool, MB will chip the car for you for free. What a deal. I want performance. I already get 18-25 mpg anyway.

Yeah, what kind of puddle was it? It might have been just A/C condensation from the evaporator drain tubes.

The Service manager told me the performance increase is minimal...but it shoots your gas mileage in the foot and supposedly requires 93 octane fuel.. The economy mode apparently kills any thought of performance driving, but cuts the minimum fuel requirement to 89 octane.

The puddle was clear, but the liquid was viscous. Maybe the factory over filled the brake fluid reservoir? They'll figure it out...

Oh....this C230 sedan is a pig....It doesn't have the all too familiar Kompressor, and it rides like a truck. Maybe this is the car the S Klasse consider the C Klasse an insult to their domain(shrug)

rick, if possible, can you find out where this option is set? and forward the info to MBTECH so that he can tell us more about it?

my dealer's technician could not find this setting.

My Bose Audio Pilot still works, even though they said it was turned off. Now it seems to get quieter than it did before I brought it in for the reset. Maybe they set it to -9db rather than -0db?

Fuel settings - Although the advisor seemed to know about this, the service technician had no clue what I was talking about. He called me at work to ask, and we discussed it for about 5 minutes. His conclusion was that the only real difference is octane requirements and that's how they gain miniscule changes in "performance" or "economy". Something tells me that isn't exactly right, so I'll check at another dealer. (steeeerike two)

They fixed the dashboard rattle - apparently there was a small plastic clip theat wasn't seated in the door panel.
They fixed the fluid leak too - left front caliper bleeder cap was loose, so they bled the brake system and re-filled it.

Bottom of the ninth...2 outs, 2 strikes....hmmm...
Maybe it's time to find another service center.
