...same location as in the pre 05s...rightside wheelwell in trunk...behind the panelling...those 203s in the US without the HK amp have the HK bracket with some high performance foam there...

It is fine for no additional cost,but I'm now feeling I want just a little more bass fill. I don't want a bulky subwoofer box though. Unfortunately, I was quoted $260 for the rear shelf subwoofer and enclosure/bracket. WAY too much! I'll try find a decent, low profile free-air 10" sub for $100 or less to mount there.
Does anyone have any pics of the OEM sub woofer, either mounted or not?

It says its made for small enclosures. Your rear deck will not be good enough; even if it is completed sealed. Google for some sub modeling programs and you'll get the idea.

That company's website has a speaker forum and the maker says it would perform "well" in an infinite baffle (i.e., mounted in rear deck with no enclosure).
Yes, the 8 ohm was the first model produced. They were originally designed for mounting into standard 2x4 walls as home theater subwoofers. Home speakers are typically 8 ohm. They are supposed to be working on lower impednace fo car applications.
Apparently, Alpine and Pioneer also produce very slim subs. I'm just having trouble finding into on them.

Look into Alto Falstaff or Phase Aliante, they are slimline woofer, only 10cm deep, but dunno whether they like infinite baffle or not, price may not be suitable but :P. Are u talking about Pioneer/Premier TS-SW124D, it sure look slim. I haven't seen slimline Alpine subs before, have any link??

I think it was Blaupunkt instead of Alpine. The 10" Blaupunkt TW1000 is 2.5" deep, but I don't think it is out yet. Retail is $180.

I don't know how much bass you want or need, but have you thought of something like a Bazooka tube sub? I know that you said that you didn't want a big box and I understand that, but the tube can be mounted over to the side and left plenty of space for other stuff. Also, Infinity has that BASSLINK which is pretty compact.

Thanks, but I want no bass box/tube in the trunk. I'm only looking for some bass fill, not "hear it down the block" booming bass
If I can't fit a good 10" or 8" free-air sub in the rear shelf, with an amplifier hidden under the carpet trim, I'll just stick w/ stock stereo system.

Does anyone know how to remove the rear shelf cover w/ fold flat rear seats? I searched, but the instructions I found were sort of vague.

you first have to remove both C pillar covers. Remove SRS airbag plastic thingies and unscrew the bolt under neath first. Then remove weather stripping. Pull c pillar cover towards front of car. Shine a light inside where you removed the weather stripping and unlatch cover.

Jim, try this, its not much cheaper though ($224). It looks very similar to what MB uses, just not as fancy. And its a German brand too!!! If it fits, and sounds good I may even replace my sub with that and and get a higher powered amp.

That 4" may be OK for a box but it will never fit between the structure and the shelf which is what he is looking for.

Two eight ohm speakers wired in parallel will result in a 4 ohm impedance. If you do this make sure you wire them exactly the same way so they don't try to cancel each other out (one going in, while the other is going out)

Oh, don't let the ohms and impedance thing worry you. Ohms in this context is for DC resistance of the coils. Impedance is how the speakers behave under AC conditions.

I have the standard radio with the sub in the back sounds resanable but the back is a bit low, I would like to turn up the amp connected to the sub, does anybody know if the amp can be turned up? othewise i'm probebly going to replace it for a more powerfull amp and keep the standard sub, has anybody done this and if so what's the result?
Further I can't find the amp, I did find several Handy (phone) stuf and made a picture of where I thougd it would be can anybody point out where to look for the amp?

does the stock standard radio have a sub or amp? im trying to find the wires for the lin converter...

The stock radio is used for both "standard" and "upgraded" audio systems. It has amps built in for driving the speakers when used in the standard system. When used in the upgraded system, it connects to a trunk mounted amp vis fiber optic connection. I stopped by my local MB dealer and got a print out of the 2005 stereo's wiring diagram. Unfortunately, the list of connections on the back of the radio included in the diagram doesn't show standard, electrical line-level outputs
