Speed Limiter Install
Has anyone ever succesfully done a speed limiter cruise control install on an 04 USA spec C 320 coupe? Ever since I drove a car in Germany with this feature, I've always wanted it for my car. So, I ordered a limiter cruise control switch from Steve at MBenzML, got it in no time, (great service Steve!) installed it in my car, and that's where the good things ended.
Steve told me that the coding would be in the Instrument Cluster, but I have had no luck there at all. I even tried changing the coding to a different country, but nothing there either.
I checked the EIS, and nothing there about cruise control either.
In the steering control module, under actual values, it recognizes all of the functions of the limiter switch (and cruise control too) so I believe that the SCM is sending out the message, but nobody is listening.
My biggest fear is that the coding for this is in the engine management, which may mean a dead end because of the doggone SCN coding. I don't know yet, I'm hoping that maybe one of the members here may be able to help me.
Thanks in advance for any advice or help you can offer!
Mike

hi Mike,
I would like to do this too, but since my C320 Coupe is a 2003, I might be in a far worse-off position than you.
I sometimes wish I could get a whole new 2004.5 Coupe instrument cluster and SCN coding to go along with it, so that all the options are available.

I don't know Carlos, you may be better off without SCN coding. It seems like it locks down the version coding of the cluster or engine management to what Germany says you should have. When we do the IMS install on your car, we can check and see if the possibility is there.

I have coded sunmans limitter a while ago...wasn't that much of a hassle and didn't need anything at all besides the stardiagnose...but must say that I coded it from a diag menu that is available in engineering mode...
carlos - shouldn't be a problem for you to get that mod done next time around...Mike, if you are in california as well, I can probably help you out with the coding on my next trip.
greetingz,

Mike,
hopefully this Saturday we can do the IMS thing. Let me know.

The speed limiter is standard over here. Don't really find it useful, as compared to cruise control (also standard). Given a choice, I would prefer to have Distronic instead since I tend to drive too close to the car in front before I know it...

Yes. It limits the distance traveled in a given amount of time by virtue of being a "speed limiter". :p

greetingz,
That sounds great to me. I don't live too far from Carlos here in SoCal, so I would really like to see if you can get this thing working.
I'll be looking for the info on your next trip!

yes i have that feature in my car. Can preprogram a set speed limit and not exceed it. it MUST be done with a DAS capable of Engineering Mode as Steve has. THe cruise lever pushes in to activate it. I have my limit swtich assy if anyone wants. email me drsunilpatel@mac.com

The "Distronic" sends a signal to the car in front and if you go too close the Distronic either buzzes you or brakes to slow down your car.
http://www.whnet.com/4x4/distronic.html
Unfortunately its only available on the E, CLK, S, CL and SL.

The Speed Limiter is exactly how it sounds. It limits how fast you can go. Basically instead of hitting the cruise and letting it do the work for you, you set the top speed limit and floor it! You have to hold the gas from what I understand!

Speed Limiter (speedtronic) is now on my scheduled mods list.
Distronic (DTR) is on my "wish list"...
I believe the eye sensor, and control module are the most expensive parts.
however, my MFD shows the DTR icon:

all 203's show the DTR icons. Both the DTR and the car chasing another car icon. It can be fitted to all 203's if you can get parts for it. Most 203's will require changing the ESP/BAS module in the engine compartment along with new power steering cooler lines and top radiator bracket. see my pictures for more details. http://homepage.mac.com/drsunilpatel/PhotoAlbum14.html

To enable the kickdown to override the limiter, it requires SCN coding of the MPFI module in the engine bay. If simple IC programming is done, then the limiter will function as a limiter w/o kickdown feature as I have.

can someone post a picture of what the Speed Limiter Assembly looks like ?
is it something you can see once installed, or just an inside switch, that is activated with the cruise control stick ?
thanks !
