Metra "Volkswagon" wiring harness to work with C-Coupe?

Well I was reading this thread here:

https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...&threadid=8574

And they were talking about this wiring harness that Metra makes that is for Volkswagons, but can be used with the C230K...I replied to the thread asking if it works with the Bose system (which I have) but have seen no replies. They did not specifially mention which harness it was.

Does anyone know anything about the wiring harness they are talking about? I wanted to put in a new headunit in mine, and I thought I was gonna have to rip out my Bose system to do it...but if I could go this route and save a little cash that would be nice. Anyways, if anyone has info on this wiring harness please post it here.

'bump'

No one here really knows anything about this? Hasn't anyone here put in an aftermarket headunit with the factory speaker system in their C?

We used t-taps to connect mine. Works fine. I will check at the stereo place and see if they have the VW harness and if it will plug into the stock radio.

Yes, I've installed an Aftermarket HU. I have an Eclipse 5542 HU, with the Metra Dash Kit. They used a VW wiring harness on my car. Check out the pics:

The C class bose system amplifier is connected to the head-unit via the fibre-optic ring, i.e its a fully digital interconnect

Therefore, it wont work with an aftermarket head unit

Cheers

jigga619, How did they wire your antenna in so it gets good reception. The coupes have an antenna amp somewhere that you have to get power to. The factory (power) plug has two more wires than the VW metra plug, so I'm guessing it is one of those. I get basically no radio reception when it is just plugged into the factory antenna lead, but it has good reception if I just plug in a regular antenna to test it.

OK, here is the scoop on using the Metra Harness. The black wire (pin 5) in the factory power harness is the antenna power wire. It needs 12v switched power. Hook it up to the blue(usually) wire in the new harness which should also be the blue wire coming out of the new HU. There is no 12 switched wire in the factory harness, so you need to find one to use. I used the cigar lighter for this. There are 2 other wires that are not used with an aftermarket HU. They probably are for wheel controls, etc. Here is a diagram of the plugs that someone else posted up a while back. He shows both the stock stereo and a Becker for reference.

Damnit, i wish someone would just say which model number the VW harness is. Everyone keeps saying "VW Harness" "VW Harness" "VW Harness" "VW Harness" "VW Harness" "VW Harness".......there are like 10 VW harnesses made by Metra. Anyone here actually know SPECIFICALLY which one it is? Thanks.

It is the plug kit for all the late model VW's. Also fits BMW's and Mercedes. I think there is only one kit, because the shop I went to only had this one. He said it fit all the late model german cars. If I can find the bag it came in, I will get a part# for you.

The harness is for the year 2001 and before (they made a new one for 2002+).
