Instruction on oil change? Searched everywhere.. no luck!
From all the bit and pieces of information i gathered.. these are my discovery:
* oil filter I think is located right up against the firewall, on the driver side of the engine. It is a small black plastic cap with a "nut" looking thing sticking up at the top for unscrewing it.
* although the dealer use the suction method to suck oil from the dip stick.. there is a drain plug under the engine which is cover by a plastic panel which can easily remove.. some suggested draining it is just as effective.
* there is no oil dip stick in this engine.
Are these information accurate? Do i need a special tool to remove the oil filter? where can i find some more infromation? please help!
I promise if i get finally get started on this oil change.. i will take picture and do a detail write up!
yes.. do not throw your engine oil into regular garbage.
again.. without getting off topic.. i really like to get more information about "how to change oil" on the c230 engine?
- If you don't have topsider to pump the oil out, then remove the rear panel (you do not need to remove the front panel) to gain access to the drain plug. It is on the driver side of the alum oil pan. The socket size is 13mm. Do not forget to put back
the copper ring if you do not have a new one.
- You need a 27 or 28 mm socket and a 4 inch extension to remove the plastic cap
on the left side of the firewall. Just move the cap straight up and out of its housing
and you can see the paper filter. Remove and replace the filter and three o-rings that came with the filter.
To reset the Service A remimder:
You have to have the key in the ignition and turned to position 2 ( If I remember correctly) It's the position just before the car starts. Then go to the FSS screen - Hold down the reset button until it ask's if you want to reset it. Then push the reset buton again.
And Yes it does cycle from A service to B service, then repeats every reset.
I purchased a Oil Boy fluid extractor to pump the oil out from Amazon that costs $45.00. I'm going to do the oil change myself like the rest of you guys and was wondering if you could confirm if its a 27 or 28mm socket. I never had to use a socket bigger than 19mm's when I had my Nissan Maxima and Honda back in the days so I have to go out and purchase the socket and want to make sure.
Thanks!

I went to Home Depot to look for the 27mm socket but they did not have one so I am going to go over to the auto shop and get one there. Didn't realize that 19mm was the largest I've seen at Home Depot. 19mm is the largest I've used for my japanese cars and never laid my hands on a benz until now.

And just to add, the MBZ part number for the oil filter element for a 2005 C230 is "A 271 180 00 09"
The cap is black plastic and approx 3" in diameter. It has a "hex" shape (about 1.25") on top. You will need a 27 mm socket to remove it.
You may need a flash light to see it because it is about 5 inches below the top surface of the engine cover.
I don't have the car any more, otherwise I could take a PIX for you.
See my post on this thread for oil drain plug location.
EDIT - found it
