Drive down Atlantic Ave. Queens Blvd. Hempstead Tpk. You will find TONS of them! Are they any good though? I dont know, Im trying to find a good place myself.

My brother in law suggested Phoenix Auto Interiors off Franklin Ave. in Franklin Square. They said they will charge me $200 for my sedan and its a lifetime warranty on bubbles and scratches from the window going up and down. Phone # is 516-352-3388

Im sorry! I retract my statement about Phoenix. Its JT Detailing around the corner from Phoenix. He says they are the best in town and have high end clients. There is a big BMW, Mercedes, Audi, and Porsche logo sign up over the door. I think Im going to go there tomorrow to check it out. I was told the prices are reasonable too.

brought wife's c230 for tint..since our little baby can't stand the California Sunshine..:P
originally, read the above posts and decided to get 35% all around and 22% on the backlite, but when I went to the shop, I found that they are way too "light" for me, finally made up my mind and went with 22% all around and 12% on the back...:p Solar Guard HP-Charco product with life time warranty.

Also, Got two "moldings" for front two doors to prevent future scratches. Quality job.. and happy with the results.

window tint getting scratched at the door frame

has anyone had the problem of their tint getting scratched by dirt and sand that is trapped between the door frame and the glass? on my car all four windows are getting scratched from particles stuck in the door frame. i just bought some moleskin from a fabric store on the recommendation of my tint man. now i need to somehow attach it to the door frame right where the rubber gasket meets the window to prevent the tint from getting scratched. once i get it installed i'm having the tint redone for free since it has a lifetime warranty against scratching.

does anyone know how to take the door apart or atleast pry enough of a gap between the frame and the window to install the moleskin?

Most people have that done at the time that their car is tinted.

Why can't your guy do it when he retints? A proper Mercedes tint job should be done that way. Otherwise, he's sticking you with a half-assed job.

Taking off the door trim to install the moleskin, then putting it back on, then driving over to your tint guy so that he can later do the same thing is a real waste of time.

nope he told me he doesn't do that, i have to do it myself. he's going to redo it no charge but he won't install the moleskin. he didn't tell me the tint would get scratched when he installed it the first time.

didn't we have this discussion a few months ago when you joined the board... ???

YES !

a tint man that does not do moleskin (or a similiar material) to protect the tint from scratching does not know what the heck they're doing.
If he gives you lifetime guarantee against scratching on his tint, and does not install moleskin, then you will be paying him visits every 3 months. And that's guaranteed for life !!!

take the advice.... go to someone who knows what they are doing. Pay the extra $$$ and get it done right !!!

i dont know. when i took my car in to get the windows tinted 1 week after i bought it, id already read enough on mbworld to know to ask about it. so i made sure where i took my car to get my windows tinted, knew what i was talking about. so it was automatically rolled into the cost. i would estimate about $20.

most professional tinters include it in their overall price.

Mine for instance was $270 all included with lifetime warranty.

ok i tried for half an hour to figure out how to remove the door trim and install the moleskin myself, it's really difficult and i'm afraid i'll break something or rip something off that was glued together. i just can't pull the trim off far enough to be able to get the moleskin positioned properly.

i asked my tint man if he would do it he said no but he will replace the tint if it's scratched, so i could just make him replace it every 3 months but i'm sure he will get sick of that and tell me to screw off.

he only charged $170 but he doesn't do moleskin. should i take the car to some kind of auto shop that does custom work and have them install the moleskin???

i paid $7 for a 44"x36" sheet plus $4 for some spray on adhesive.

I was quoted at $199 for tint and then quoted $350 when I told him it was a MB! The guy is supposedly one of the best in the area...
