Out of curiosity, No Wur E do u have a pick of your tint?
Here's a pic taken today around 6pm PST. 50% tint (meter at shop actually registered 42%) for all 4 side windows, 35% for large back window (metallic). I still wanted to maintain the bluish tint, but a darker shade and a classy look. At first, i was hesitant to go a little darker for the large back window (35%), but after install it looked balanced. My installer actually recommended this way. Nighttime and during rain it appears much darker. Again, I didn't want to worry the cops pulling me over for tint. You can tell that the car has been tinted, but it doesn't look obvious.

Yes, thats looks really nice! If I had to do it over I would probably opt for that option. I spent quite a few minutes looking at my tint last night before it got dark and after its all said and done, I'm content. I just hope the cops will be content too! I think on a darker car (midnightblue), the 35%-20% works well.

Here's a couple pics of mine. 35% on the sides and 20% on the rear. (Also a shot of the "formymercedes" door pins.)

LOOKS GREAT....

I have the "all glass" roof, which is tinted fairly dark, does anyone know what the % of tint it is?

Also what is the opinion on matching all the glass tint to the roof tint on a Mayo White Sports coupe?

I can answer that...
I went through the LOU's CUSTOM tint via MBWerks in San Diego.
He matched my rear window to the Pano-Roof tint, which is 35%.
On the side windows I had him do 43%. Here's a pic:

Hmmm... 35%
That would be pretty dark, especially on white. Big contrast. What happens is the lines of the Coupe will be highly accented, and the windows will look bigger from a distance than what they normally do. If you have Photoshop or similar imaging software, use a side-shot photo of your car, and just darken the windows black. Look at it from a distance, and see how you like it / dislike it. Sometimes you see cars with 20% tint or that crazy LIMO tint, and they just don't seem to look good anymore. A little bit too much in my opinion. At first I wanted to do the same as you and go 35% all around, but the tinter (Lou) showed me what it would look like, and decided to go 43% on the sides. Now I'm glad I did. It's up to you though !

Smooth set up, looks great!

Esp on SD bay

I think were gunna have to meet up sometime, so i can see this in person.

What did they charge for the tint? Is it ceramic? Interfere with you keyfob distance?

I went to "al & eds" for a estimate on window tinting, was quoted 3bens (for ceramic)

ha... not tryin to mimic your car, but your right where i intend on being with the mods and tint. May as well ask... rim size, lowered?

Tint: came out if I remember correctly around $220-250.
Not ceramic, but they sure do know Mercedes-Benz very well. Understand window scratch issues, so they provide moleskin. They understand rear window metallics and radio antenna stuff.
No interference with keyfob at all.

Rim size: 17" staggered AMG & chromed.

Lowered: yes, with CARLSSON / BILSTEIN RS fully adjustable sport suspension

'05 tail-lights: I bought them from Steve (MBenzNL) as part of the '05 Coupe upgrade package including front grill, side blinkers. Can't remember price, but I think alltogether was less than $400.

Parktronic: a little over $1000.

You can see a list / pics of ALL my mods on my C32 Coupe thread.

HA! GOOD POINT!

Or you can go all P-I-M-P style and do the "roll down the black glass" and ask the hottie females for their digits in your "hot ride"

I ultimately want a classy look and I think the 20 on the back is slightly too dark for my taste. Just my opinion. They used Matico and it looks pretty nice. Hopefully the sides will stay in good shape.
Keep in mind that the darker the rear window, the less adjustment you will notice in the auto-dimming of your mirrors (since the sensor is in the rear view mirror and reads ambient light levels through the rear window). I had my car done in 35% for all windows (including rear). Initially, they installed 20% on the rear by mistake. Dimming mirrors hardly worked at all, so I took it back, showed them the spec on the contract that said I wanted 35% all-round, and they removed the 20% and installed 35%. Pic below shows 35% all-round.

BTW, the various levels of tint, measured in "percent" defines how much light is transmitted through the tint. Subtract the 5% tint as comes from the factory from the 35% as installed and the total light transmission is now 30%.

this is true. i prefer the 20% on the rear, the auto dimming can be annoying when it changes everything to look blue and it makes it a little harder to see exactly what's behind you.

MB-BOB, definitely preferred the 35% (30%) on the rear as well. It looks really good on your car.
I like my auto-dimming feature, and with the 35/30 % I don't get that "can't see behind you" problem. That is exactly why I didn't use 20%.

Auto-dimming and 35% works like a charm.
Auto-dimming and 20% is a waste.

with my 35% sides and 20% rear and i leave the rear sunshade up 24/7 i have no problems whatsoever seeing out the back at night.
the bmw with 20% all around was pretty bad, i came close to hitting a lot of things trying to back that up at night with the windows up, it was literally complete blackness.
now the bmw has 35% on the sides and 20% in the rear, same as the mb.

LOL! See I knew you this would happen to me. Ok now I'm thinking of taking the car back and having them retint the back window to 35% like all other windows. (20 rear- 35 sides now) I called the guy and he said he'd charge me 75 to redo the back one.

I was all fine and content until this whole "35% all around, 20% is too dark for back window" thing came about. LOL! I thought the 20% was supposed to make the back window look even with the 35% sides but it doesn't.

Hmmm....fork out 75 more bucks and have it done or live with it? I am already having to spend 100 more this week to have someone else put moleskin in because my tint guy doesn't do it. So my tint will come to 460.00 after its all said and done. Damn! Man this sucks but it takes trial and error and a whole lot of $$$ to make it right!

usually, the unwritten rule with tinting, is that you go one shade darker on the back, than you do on the sides. So your set-up is OK. 35% sides / 20% rear.
That's nice & dark.
I like more subtle yet still functional tint, so I went 43% sides / 35% rear.
Also, because 35% rear matches the Pano-Roof stock tint on the Coupe.

even with the extra $175 you may have to spend, I think they really overcharged you quite a bit for tinting. Maybe that's just Bay Area prices.
But, down here in SoCal you can get 35/20 43/35 or whatver for less than $250 and that includes Moleskin, lifetime warranty, and installer knows MB nuances like rear glass, radio antenna, etc....

I went to Lakeview MB service center here on LI, to go see the SLR and to ask the techs some questions... I asked them if they do tint and the guy says "Yes we do do tint, its $250." So I say thats for the 4 sides and the rear with any warranty? his response... "Back window? You dont tint the back window, there is an anttena there." Needless to say I told him "HAHAHA YOU'RE KIDDING RIGHT! DO YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT ANYTHING AUTOMOTIVE? ILL GET IT DONE ELSE WHERE THANK YOU VERY MUCH!"

that's a great price. But it looks like it didn't include the moleskin or velvet felt that will protect your tint in the long run. Those small scratches will just start appearing with time, and you're gonna wish you spent the extra bit up front. Of course, lifetime warranty is cool. But you'll still have to spend cash & time to install that protective moleskin or felt.

Ya it is ending up costing a fortune if I have it redone......will wait and think about it. My tint was 280.00 with matico and no moleskin and will be an extra 100 to have the moleskin put in. Can I do this myself or just shut up and fork out the 100 to have it done.

Yeah, i'm noticing more scratches on the driver's window. I need to figure out where to buy this moleskin stuff and have him redo that window's tint and install the moleskin at the same time.

New York Tinter?

Does anyone have a good tint person in New York city? The dealership wants 600 bucks to tint a coupe, that seems about 3X to high. Thanks for the help.
