Hi guys,

I'm wondering if any on here had replace the stock nylon/rubber hose that goes from the front grill to the airbox?

I'm looking to see if anyone done that and how's the results? I'm about to go to some local shops and get a 3 inch aluminum tube for that.

I know this is a SUPER old topic, but I just purchased a used one of these beautiful vehicles and was perturbed by the flimsy fabric hose connecting the ram air intake to the air filter housing. I searched around for a suitable replacement and was not able to find anything on the topic other than the part number for the original replacement hose. I thought I could improve on the design and am pleasantly surprised with my results. Thought I'd post a pic for any and all who are seeking a similar solution. With the years that have passed since this topic was discussed, I'm sure someone has come up with a similar, if not exact solution as I have, but I hadn't seen anything posted. So, here you go! $20 spent at Lowe's and viola!

Thanks for the vote of confidence! I was really pleased at how well it turned out and how easy it was. I got a 2' length of black plastic ABS 3" pipe and two rubber 3" couplers with clamps at each end. I took both 90° plastic bends of the fresh air pipe out and used a rotary tool to cut about a 1/4" of the outer lip so that there would be plenty of the inner lip for the couplers to clamp to. I first installed both couplers onto to each 90°plastic tube and temporarily installed them in their respective locations. I then cut an 8" long section off the 2' pipe and installed the pipe in one coupler and then evened out the pipe in between each coupler so there was plenty of surface area for the clamp to clamp to. Last but not least, I tightened everything down and checked for clearance all the way around and made sure everything was solid and went for a test drive! I can post some more pics if you'd like, it was fairly easy and took me all of a half hour.

My only concern is it might allow more moisture / dust to enter the airbox.
The OEM hose is ribbed and made of some kind of fabric.
Maybe it's possible to fit some rubber sleeve over the existing hose...

A fresh air/ram air duct on any vehicle is going to allow a certain level of moisture, debris, etc into the air filter housing, the original one would have done the same thing. You may be correct about more moisuture making it into the air filter housing, but I believe that the air filter housing itself has a drain, specifically for the purpose of draining any excess moisture. Any other debris that made into the housing itself would only collect there in the housing and the filter would stop any of that debris from making it into the engine. Time will tell exactly what results I will experience with this modification, but I'm fairly certain the original design was more restrictive and I am positive it was much less durable and far more prone to deterioration than the current setup I have.

Any tips on removal of the air intake hose on a 04 c230...How do you remove the front end from the grill?

There are clips on top and bottom. It can be a PITA to get it off.
You need to squeeze the plastic part of the hose as close to the grill part as possible.
Look inside the scoop while squeezing, I think you might be able to see how it's connected.

How and where is the pump for the windshield wiper washer? How do you repair it?

It's very easy. The pump costs about $30, it takes about 30 minutes to replace it.
Dealership wanted $350...

I spent an hour getting it off. I had to reach in under the front metal frame with a long screwdriver to get access to rectangular cutout where the top clip (attached to the front scope) protruded into the rectangular cutout. Once I got the top clip unhooked and could swing the intake downward towards the engine, I could then wiggle the bottom part of the intake free from the bottom clip on the front scoop. I could then finally pull the whole intake out. It would be easy if you could squeeze the front intake piece which would release both top and bottom clips simultaneously. I could not find any way to squeeze it. When I put it back I will smooth out and lubricate the clips so it is easier next time.
