Not quite comfortable with the C230 badging, partly due to my aversion towards the original 2.3 liter motor, I went ahead and corrected the trunklid badging. No other changes are planned.

Yeah, I really hate it when MB and other car manufacturers start "misnaming" their models. My only guess is that while the engine needs to be bigger for performance reasons, manufacturers still need to show a visible difference between the models. But what's wrong with a C250, C300 and C350?

Or does MB want to maintain their traditional/historical(??) badging numbers?

If you remove the ZERO it goes faster.

sometimes, having the correct numbers is very important. I was watching this one show on tv and the reporter said there was a time MB had problem selling the 400 series in HK because it sounded like death. Alfa Romeo had bigger problem when they released the 164 series because it sounded like "death all the way" in cantonese.

BMW probably can't sell the Z4 very well in HK

So, did this "correction" reduce your level of insecurity?

yup, that's very true. 164 does sound like "death all the way" in Cantonese. The number '4' isn't that popular as well cuz it sounds very much like "die" or "death".

I agree with you.
There would have been nothing wrong with C250, C300 and C350.
Just like the 1.8L C230K's should of really been badged C180K's.

It looks stupid. It's a C230. There's no such thing as a C250.

Why don't you just say what you're really trying to do: Distinguish yourself from those lowly 1.8 C230s.....

hey, i have an idea! let's go around with a bunch of Audi/VW "1.8T" badges and ninja-badge all of the 1.8 C230's! Yeah that would be fun!

except the 1.8 C230 is supercharged not turbo so that wouldn't make any sense whatsoever. he actually has a 2.5 so i don't see a problem with it. it's his car, his dime, let him do as he wishes. at least he's not a poser sporting a motor he doesn't have. i look at it as a mod representing what's under the hood rather than the model

Mercedes really annoyed me with the badging. For the c230 m271 they put the dumb 1.8 badges on the side to help distinguish it. If they believed that making a C180 would make the car seem "worth less". Why didn't they make the c230 a c250, wouldn't the public think it's "worth more"?

They didn't make it a C180 because they already had a C180.

I can tell the difference between people who can drive really well and those who cannot without looking at any numbers. Those who can drive really well would use the turn signal when changing lanes and making a turn

To be honest, I don't see a difference. He's "sporting" a model of car that he doesn't really have because MB doesn't make it. To me, if he would have put S500 AMG on his car it would have been equally as silly.

Sure, it's his car and he can do what he wants. No problem there. But when he posts pictures of his posing, looking for opinions, he will get them; good and bad.

true he will get mixed opinions. but i see no harm. he does in fact sport a "250" under the hood so it's cool with me. obviously S500 would be posing. not an S class or a 500 and putting an AMG badge on non-AMG car i'd consider posing as well. even if my car does sport the "AMG" kit, it's still miles away from one. i've seen quite a few on here posing AMG badges.

I see no harm either. However, he does not have a "250" under the hood, it's a 2.5. Regardless of what you want to believe, the "230" does not represent the actual engine size, it is part of the model. So yes, he is "posing" by putting on C250 when his car is only a C230. To me, it's the same as putting an A4 badge on a VW Jetta.
